Town Amongst Clubs Linked With Everton Full-Back
Wednesday, 15th Jul 2015 13:59

Town are reportedly amongst a number of Championship clubs to have enquired about Everton’s England U21 international left-back Luke Garbutt.

According to The Times, the Blues, Fulham, QPR and Rotherham are all keen on loaning the 22-year-old, who the Toffeemen are said to want to join a Championship club, despite interest from Premier League AFC Bournemouth and Swansea.

Garbutt, who recently signed a new five-year deal at Goodison Park, was with Leeds as a schoolboy but joined Everton’s youth set-up in 2009.

Capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels, Garbutt has previously spent time out on loan at Cheltenham and Colchester. He has made eight starts and six sub appearances for his parent club.

Town are very much in the market for another left-back to compete with Jonny Parr, Tyrone Mings having moved on to the Cherries - who had previously been strongly tipped to sign Garbutt - for an initial £8 million last month.

Martinez: “If it's in the Premier League it has to be an environment where he can play, if not we'll find another team that suits exactly what he needs in order to develop.”

So wouldn't jump the gun saying that QPR will get him because of finances.

That quote says to me that Everton want him to get game time and develop well.

We have scouted and developed both Aaron Cresswell (West Ham player of the season) and Tyrone Mings (Bournemouth's biggest transfer) in the last two seasons both LB's.

He's also been on loan at Colchester so knows the area (and hopefully likes it).

All the points above go very much in our favour!

That's a fair point Green_Army, hadn't considered he'd already been in the area.

Good player but are we seriously only after loans? Appreciate they still cost money but back to square one next year if we fail to get promoted. Let's start signing players with the Mings money which will actually be OUR player. Not just for next season but for hopefully years to come.

This kid is a big talent . As well as my love for town I am a big Everton fan and let me tell you the Evertonians are buzzing that has signed a new deal there . If we could get Luke on loan for the season I think he would add some real quality and and improve our chances of a better league finish than last season . COYB !!

Full-back is looking the problem area at the moment; we have only Parr, Chambers ( who is properly a centre-back) and some youngsters. I really hope that at least one of the youngsters makes a place his own, but we are looking short. My preference would be to sign both a right and left-back on permanent deals.

Well Southgate preferred him to Mings for the u21's, so although I can't say if he's better than Mings or not - he thinks so anyway!
