Town Could Receive £250,000 Boost
Saturday, 4th Jul 2015 09:51

Mick McCarthy’s transfer budget would be swelled by a further £250,000 if Town are successful in the final of Sky Bet’s Transfer Fund competition on Friday.

The Blues are one of 10 clubs in with a chance of winning the cash when the draw is made live on Sky Sports from 12.15pm.

The other clubs in the final are Derby, Peterborough, Carlisle, Cardiff, Rotherham, Tony Mowbray's Coventry, Terry Butcher’s Newport, Bolton and Southend.

Supporters linked their Football League club to their Sky Bet account and for each £1 bet they added one Transfer Fund Token to the draw.

A participating Sky Bet customer supporting each finalist was chosen at random with Town fan Spencer Todd potentially landing himself £5,000 in addition to the £250,000 going to the club.

In the first running of the competition in December, Nottingham Forest were the winners and brought in Todd Kane and Gary Gardner on loan with the cash.

Find this a bit cringe worthy...

What a shocker!

"Hello Mr customer.....dod you know that if you bet every penny you have with us, your club MAY win £250k"

"You will be skint and living from foodbanks, but we will be happy with the profits and the club will have 250k"

"You MAY get 5k, but this won't be anywhere near enough to repay the festering pool of debt which you are now swimming in"

"Who is first for this utterly repugnant promotion?"

I'm sure with the amount they take in they could easily make the prize for a club like a million and still make a meaty profit

Only needed to have bet £1

Hope one of the tiny clubs win it to be honest, like Carlisle or Newport.

I bet Derby win it which would be a shame. It's not like they need it.

Would be great for Newport. They are operating on a much reduced budget this season. The money would go a long way for them.

Agree with many of the above. Wrong message completely. I know a lot of supporters like a bet on football results and that is their prerogative but to set up a programme which suggests that by doing so they might be helping the club is just reprehensible. This 'prize' is tainted cash 'earned' from people who have lost money they might not have been able to afford. Sorry, sermon over!

Wouldn't that pay back Chopras debt? A bit ironic....

As much as £250 k! We really are in the big time now! Pity poor Man City who, according to newspaper rumours, will have to content themselves with spending a mere £100 million!

Look on the bright side; we could buy 25 Tyrone Mings'.

Come on Phil, keep up. Surely it should be Tony Mowbray's Coventry.

Agree completely Blue041273. Also wrong message to some *players* - Bish, Chopra. Just incredibly cynical by Skybet. And I speak as a small-scale (disciplined) gambler on horses. Cancelled account with Skybet several months ago, happy to say.

I hope Derby don't win it. Equally, with £8M for Mings, it would benefit a so called smaller club. We should ample purchasing power as it is.

Well, yes, that's the bright side if we hoodwink the world like before and manage to sell every single one of them for anything over £1m again. Otherwise the idea of a squad full of Mingses is hideous. The world's tallest Conference/sub-Conference side.

Im greedy lets hope we win could be the start and a boost of winning that could go on through the season, but come on I don't think a championship side should win it but you got to be in it to win it, but saying derby don't need it they are not wealthy they have different prioities as ME spends 5 million a year keeting the academy up to scratch they still have cat 1 grants that we lost so they don't have to invest in the academy as much as us. If owners are compared ME is richer than the bloke who cheats people out of money with candy crush. they just get more grants from the FL so they have more first team investment.

Regardless of where the money is coming from, I hope we win it. 250K would give us 1 or even 2 players wages for the season in the Championship.

If we don't get it, hope it's Newport. That much money would make a phenomenal difference for them. But it's bound to be Derby, Cardiff or Bolton that get it. The rich always seem to get richer.

It's good to be in with a chance of winning something! Fingers crossed.

Just saw in the news that Russell Osman has been appointed as Assistant Manager at Newport County. Congrats to him! Hopefully, if they win the money they can take One of ours on-loan

If we get the 250,000 we should bring in Todd Kane. He's available from Chelsea again and would sort out our right-back issue.

Todd Kane at RB and Spencer Todd wines the 250k to get him spooky is it an omen

Isn't this a bit embarrassing. Are we so hard up that a potential 250 grand makes it as a news headline.
