Town Move for Pitman as Cherries Make Mings Bid
Thursday, 25th Jun 2015 15:34

TWTD understands that Town are closing in on the signing of AFC Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman, while the Cherries have made a bid for Blues left-back Tyrone Mings.

Town hope to complete their move for Pitman before the end of the week with the player expected at Portman Road later today.

Pitman scored 14 goals - including a first-half hat-trick against Blackpool in March - in 21 starts and 18 sub appearances last season as the Cherries topped the Championship and reached the Premier League for the first time in their history.

The St Helier-born frontman started his career with Bournemouth before joining Bristol City in 2010. He returned to Dean Court initially on loan in December 2012 before signing a permanent deal the following summer.

The 27-year-old still has a year left on that contract and it's likely he will cost the Blues a fee. While the majority of Town’s summer business will be free transfers and loans, MD Ian Milne recently told TWTD that there would be some cash to spend on fees if required.

As reported yesterday, Blues left-back Tyrone Mings was linked with the Cherries after the odds on him making a move to the Dorset club were slashed by SkyBet, who are no longer offering the bet on their website. We understand that as per the subsequent speculation, a bid has been made.

The two proposed deals are not understood to be linked or dependent upon one another.

Terrific business for everyone, players included. Pitman means we have a really serious choice of 4 class strikers. Good luck Tyron great chance for him as will play. ME and MM know what they are doing

Its vital the money is spent strengthening the areas where we are weak ,the obvious ones ,rightback ,we need a left back ,left mid right mid centre mid , 5 or 6 players.

Step forward Jonny Parr. A good deal with an able replacement already at the club.

Jeez !! Why do people assume that this means Murphy is on his way out ??? Every squad with any kind of ambition needs 4 quality strikers . Murphy , Mcgoldrick , Sears & Pitman looks like a pretty good 4 to me . If Mick chooses to play with 3 strikers (which I believe he may this season) then we need one striker on the bench . Money isn't everything to all footballers if they are happy where they are . I think Murphy will see out his career at Ipswich , could be wrong but that's my feeling

From the player's point of view I would be much happier with a move to Bournemouth than, say, Arsenal. At least he will get a game and hopefully increase his chances of playing for England one day.

Everyone seems to think this signing is the green light for Murph to pack his boots. Let's hope not. We all know what wins matches is goals, and putting the ball in the net is the hardest job to do. That is why all the big money transfers are for forwards. Having four decent strikers is a must to cover for injuries, loss of form, or a change of style if things are not going our way.

Anyway, in my opinion McGoldrick could drop into centre midfield and be a revelation. He has the ability to hold the ball, see a pass, and an eye for goals!!!! With him there We know the midfield would chip in with their fair share which we lacked last season. With Hyam and/or Skuse behind him I believe we would have a strong spine down the middle of the pitch from back to front.

I don't,t know how many people who post on here understand football but in any squad you need a minimum of 4 strikers ,Murphy will be going nowhere now the ming's deal is done also Pittman scores 1 in 2 record will be better after tc has got hold of him ,also bringing in a proper winger will create chances I predict that we will score close to 90 goals this season and if we do that means automatic promotion given our decent defence

I agree with those who believe we need four strikers never mind whether Murphy stays or goes we cant forget that McGoldrick has had serious injury problems for the last two seasons we really need to cover that issue as well. I am sure MM and TC recognise this and this will provide cover and competition. CYOB
