Mings Cherries Move Odds Slashed
Wednesday, 24th Jun 2015 18:42

Premier League new boys AFC Bournemouth have emerged as surprise contenders for the signature of Blues left-back Tyrone Mings with the odds on him joining the Cherries having been slashed to 1/6 by bookmaker Skybet this afternoon.

Mings has been watched by most of the Premier League over the last year or so with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked.

Crystal Palace had a £3.5 million offer turned down last summer, while Newcastle were reported to have made an enquiry last week when they were said to have been quoted an initial fee of £8 million for the 22-year-old, rising to £10 million once further clauses were taken into account.

Bournemouth have previously been tipped to sign Everton left-back Luke Garbutt with a loan move reported to have been close earlier in the week.

Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, while Mings is contracted to Town until the summer of 2017.

Town's spending power will again be limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules this summer with MD Ian Milne recently confirming that the Blues' close season recruitment would once more largely consist of Bosman free transfers and loans.

However, selling a player such as Mings for a big fee would give McCarthy greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

Meanwhile, we understand the Blues are close to confirming the addition of Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles on a season-long loan.

News that the Blues are targeting the highly-rated 17-year-old first broke last week.

LOL jog on! I've got more chance of pulling Harry Houdini out my arse than Mings going Bournemouth...

....... as if any return for Mings would be available for players - would be camouflaged again as 'spent on loans and players wages'.

And duly accepted ..... !!!!!

WAKE UP IPSWICH TOWN ........... and start meaning business in terms of progress - NOW.

JackSted - I wouldn't be that confident. Remember on election night in May, paddy Ashdown said he would eat his hat if the exit polls were correct ... Look what happened there!!

I hope you are right by the way, although despite the usual words from the club, it's looking increasingly likely we will lose at least one of Murphy, Mings, McGoldrick or Bishop. Shame. I just hope if they do go, we reinvest every penny and not just on wages.

It sounds like a move could well be on then. If so, let's hope the fee is right. We do have Jonathan Parr who was really unlucky not to play more last season, so perhaps given a run in his favoured left-back slot he could be the answer if Mings does go.

For £8million+ the club simply couldn't turn it down. That's three or four good quality first team players that we could bring in. Parr to left back with young Clarke pushing for his place really would be a bad set up.

We seem to be the only club taking any notice of the FFP .

Hold on, we don't know that is the fee! That's what we apparently quoted Palace a year ago. No doubt it's been negotiated down, with the fee in installments based on x,y and z. I expect the fee will be "undisclosed" which always annoys me a bit.

Odds of 6/1 on are decidedly worrying. Sounds like a done deal now. I didn't think he would go but the bookies are rarely wrong and those odds make the move sound like a cast iron certainty.

Can't see Bournemouth paying the kind of money we're asking for. I think Mings would still do better to just stay with us rather than suffering a relegation season at somewhere like Bournemouth and damage his reputation.

He'd be selling himself short going to a one PL season wonder Bournemouth. Yes he'd make a pile of money - if that's all that concerns him, then go for it. But (like all the others before him), he'd be better staying at a very good club for another couple of seasons then get a really good move to an established PL club, if Town haven't secured promotion by then.

Either way I'm more than happy with the 100% profit we will make on him when he does go and have a better, more natural left back in Parr, who I think got a raw deal last season tbh.

Would sell for 8 million plus add ons. Cash up front. 6 million to be re invested in new signings. Think that would get a promotion charge going.

Surprised no Premiership club has had a sniff of Berra...to add to the list @jas0999. Personally feel we'll lose Murphy and Mings.

Could be a good move for both Mings and Town.
I would have thought he would get regular games in the Premier and what an opportunity that would be for him.
As for us, it looks likely to be the only way we would get some money to spend.

I just hope Marcus releases plenty of money from anyone we might sell or if not we could be looking for another manager pretty soon!

+8million for mings would be a good deal, as long as we saw some of the money. We don't need to buy big for some quality. The quality we need might be in the lower leagues in England and Europe, as we now have some decent scouts. We might be able to afford a couple of prem loans as we'll,as we will have the money to pay there ridiculous wages. CANT WAIT FOR THE TRANSFER WINDOW TO OPEN AND READ ALL THE PLAYERS WE'LL BE LINKED WITH...

Great deal if we get a millions for Mings. He is still VERY much a top player in the making and may never get to the top. He has been for half a season a disaster waiting to happen and it has happened on a number of occasions, not least against the Carrots up the road. Provided we get reasonable replacements he will not be greatly missed.

He is good going forward but lacks a lot of technique when defending. However, he has age on his side. He is no Cresswell.

It would be a sad day for a Ipswich Town if we have to sell one of one best young talents to a lot smaller club in Bournemouth & would be a real watershed moment for ITFC. It used to be us picking clubs like them off, aka Matt Holland. My how times have changed, 18 years on :-(

Really wouldn't take a lot of money in such a small market to slash the odds.

Its not about the size of the club, but the division they play in that players are concerned about. PL will always be a big pull for a player. Not lest because of the inflated ego and bank balance.

Maybe worth noting he was born in bath and played for Bristol and Southampton youth so maybe location might be a factor if he wants to be closer to family or friends in an ideal world I would love to hang on to Tyrone and see him develop as a blue but if his transfer fee was given in its entirety to mick to build a stronger squad that could go a step further then it has to be considered.if we do sell Can we please build in a decent sell on clause because under the right guidance I think he will go on to play at the highest level

I live not far from Bournemouth and have been reliably informed that at this stage there has just been an enquiry. With Daniels their current LB I can't see Mings getting regular game time there. I have also been told that it is unlikely that Howe will not go anything higher than £5m, so at this moment in time, I can't see this one materialising. I could be wrong of course.

Why would he want to go to a crap, tinpot club like that? They are going to be this years blackpool.

If you want to try your luck in the Premer League lad, by all means, but don't waste valuable career time playing for that lot. You will be back in the championship within a year

The bookies are always in the know, they obviously have their contacts. In this case, it's the brother of the milkman that delivers milk to the sister of a friend of the cousin of Eddie Howe's mum must have told the bookmakers that a deal is imminent here.
