Birmingham Winger Linked With Blues and Bees
Saturday, 20th Jun 2015 14:49

Town and Brentford are weighing up moving for out-of-contract Birmingham City midfielder Koby Arthur, according to reports in his native Ghana.

The 19-year-old has been offered new terms by his current club, who he joined from non-league Woodford United in 2012, but is expected to move on this summer having found first-team opportunities limited at St Andrew’s.

Having moved to England with his family as a child, Arthur primarily plays wide on the right but can operate all across the midfield and up front.

Standing 5ft 6in tall, Arthur has made only eight starts and six sub appearances for Birmingham and has also spent time out on loan with Lincoln, where he made two starts and four sub appearances, and Cheltenham, for whom he scored four goals in two starts and six games from the bench.

While Arthur may well be on boss Mick McCarthy’s list of potential summer targets, Town are closing in on the season-long loan signing of Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles and if that deal goes through, as it is expected to, the Blues would appear unlikely to add another similar player to their squad.

Koby Arthur, Cameron STEWART,Cole SKUSE.Paul ANDERSON,Stephen HUNT,Alex HENSHALL,Dylan CONNOLLY,Darren Ambrose.... If MM keeps trying he'll eventually get a wide player and he'll have saved a load of cash by only using frees and loans.

Erm given his age would the brummies not be due a compensation fee? Ppl keep saying he's free but I think he would cost.

There are good frees and bad. We just have to pick the right ones.

I'm happy that we appear to be looking for pacey wingers which we so badly lacked last season. Don't know much about the boy but whoever we go for deserves a chance before we all jump on his back. I agree with whoever said earlier about Jamie Ward from Derby. Very good player who can play wide in a front 3 and get goals.

As he's been offered new terms I'm pretty sure we would have to pay compensation and I believe we had to pay over 400k for Cressy, so chances are it will be around that figure again. Two common arguments from Town fans are that we aren't paying fees for players and that we should be looking for good players in the lower leagues. This guy would cost a fee, has performed well in the lower leagues (I know he's a Birmingham player before people point it out) and would bring pace to the side. Four goals in eight games for a struggling (and ultimately relegated) league two side is good going for a striker, let alone a winger.

Yes we've had some young wingers coming into the club that haven't worked (yet) but there's no harm bringing in another on relatively low wages I'm guessing. Taking a chance on a younger player may pay dividends with some of the crazy fees going around (£3.5 for the young Charlton full back for example).

Jamie Ward is a good player but the truth is we can't match Forest financially judging by the calibre of player they have at the club, despite finishing mid table and their FFP issues.

I agree with Jas keep getting free's etc however to really strengthen a fee maybe needed. .I think ME should have invested in January so we could have kicked on and sealed a top 2 spot instead of scraping into the play offs. If you look at Transfer in's and out's since ME came in we have accumulated more £ from selling than we have spent buying.
