Bishop Fined
Friday, 5th Jun 2015 17:02

Town midfielder Teddy Bishop has apologised after today being fined £3,000 for a breach of the Football Association’s betting rules. Bishop, 18, was also warned as to his future conduct after an FA disciplinary hearing that took place in London.

The player did not place any bets on Ipswich Town games but the betting rules changed at the start of last season with anyone employed within the game prohibited from placing bets on all football worldwide.

Before that it was possible for players, officials etc to bet on football as long as bets were not placed on games involving their own club or competitions in which their club were participating.

Upon hearing the verdict Bishop told the club website: “It has been a very worrying time for me and I’d like to apologise to the manager and Ipswich Town.

“I have no one to blame but myself for not being fully aware of the restrictions in betting on football. I am only young and I’m learning all the time about experiences in life and in football. This is an experience I won’t forget. It has been a massive learning curve for me.”

Town’s managing director, Ian Milne, added: “Teddy has apologised to Mick McCarthy and the Club for his actions.

“Like the rest of the playing squad and the Club staff in general, he was made aware of the guidelines regarding betting on football matches at the start of last season.

“He has accepted his punishment and we have reiterated to him the responsibilities he has as an employee of Ipswich Town Football Club but it is worth noting that the bets were all for small amounts of money and while placed under Teddy’s name, were shared amongst his friends away from the game.

“He is young and has made a mistake. He is aware of that and will certainly learn from it.”

So "Hegansheroes" aka "A Canary in Disguise"
You obviously don't know a great deal how promoted premiership directors minds work in recent times.
Take a look how Southampton thanked Nigel Adkins
QPR treated Neil Warnock
or even Ian Holloway at C Palace.
He (Alex Neil) who still hasn't got all his coaching badges, won't be in residence long before he will become "The Sacrificial Lamb" and they will putting him on the Delia BBQ and coming out with that well verse quote...
"We would like to go on record and thank Alex for all his efforts at NCFC and we wish him well for the future"

I messed up a lot at 18 in and out of jail for fighting. Hope he will learn his lesson from this.

It's somewhat ironic that at the bottom of this article there is a paragraph advertising William Hill and offering two free bets ...

Storm in a teacup. Right response from player and club. Move on (but giving him some advice about pitfalls of gambling at the same time). Quite how some people have turned this article into a rant about Norwich I don't know! Wise words spoken to me many years ago by an old guy when I was facing a barrage of abuse for being English by a group of Scots and Aussies - 'define yourself by your own deeds not the hatred of others'. They deserved to go up, will probably come back down (as we would have) and should stick my what seems to be a very good young manager regardless. Oh bugger, I'm talking about them now. Blue Army😀

Its obvious from a lot of the posters on this link that Ipswich fans are amongst the most moral, upstanding people on the planet - never placing a fiver on a Saturday "accy".
Next time I see a queue of people at the bookies under the East of England Cooperative Stand I'll point them out to a steward as they are obviously not Town fans and shouldn't be there!!

The fact he placed the bets in his own name says everything about how much he was trying to cheat the rules... i.e. he wasn't at all.

Clearly he just wasn't thinking, or he had had a couple of beers, or he has ADD/ADHD and wasn't listening to the presentation properly at the start of the season.

Give him a break, he seems like a nice lad.

The real irony is the league is called the Sky Bet Championship. Perhaps they should change it to "Sky Bet Except For Of Course The Actual Players That Is Championship".
