Derby Day Road Closures
Friday, 8th May 2015 13:46

Fans attending tomorrow’s home play-off derby against Norwich City should note that there will be road closures in the vicinity of the ground from 5am, leading to disruption to public transport. Supporters are advised to arrive at Portman Road early with the attendance set to be close to the 29,000 mark.

The road closures will be in place on Portman Road and on Princes Street at the junctions of Civic Drive, Chancery Road, Chalon Street and Commercial Road ahead of the match from 5am and will remain for a short while after the game has ended.

The pedestrian access from Cardinal Park to Princes Street, known as Sedan Walk, will also be temporarily closed.

As a result there will be some disruption to public transport. Buses will be operating via Cardinal Park whilst Princes Street is closed with updated bus timetables and routes here. For information and road closures advice on the day follow @SuffolkPolice on Twitter.

Meanwhile, a special football train will be running between Norwich and Ipswich, leaving at 10.50am with the return departing Ipswich at 2.35pm. Further information here.

Portman Road’s turnstiles and stadium bars will be open from 10.45am ahead of the 12.15pm kick-off.

Police Commander for Ipswich, Superintendent Louisa Pepper, said: “This is a great local derby event with healthy rivalry between two family friendly clubs and supporters.

“We will be dealing with fans as they would expect to be treated. There will be a strong, visible policing presence and our style will be firm, friendly and fair.

“The police operation has been developed to ensure everyone has a safe day out. Our focus will be on the management of areas where we have seen issues before at other matches as fans travel to and from the stadium.”
