Fulham Again Linked With McCarthy
Wednesday, 8th Apr 2015 10:42

Championship strugglers Fulham continue to be linked with a summer move for Blues boss Mick McCarthy.

The Cottagers, who are 20th, eight points off the relegation zone despite receiving lucrative parachute payments following their relegation from the Premier League, were previously mentioned in connection with McCarthy last month.

According to today’s Irish Independent, Fulham owner Shahid Khan is willing to meet Town’s compensation requirements to land the 56-year-old with a four-year contract worth €10 million (£7.3 million) - including a promotion clause - and a big budget on offer at Craven Cottage.

McCarthy, whose family home is still in Bromley, signed a new three-year deal with the Blues last summer.

Current Fulham manager Kit Symons took over, initially as a caretaker-boss, following the departure of Felix Magath in September and is contracted until the end of next season.

If its true we may just find out how much ambition Evans actually has left because he will have to stump up some money for the transfer budget one way or the other, either to keep MM or to persuade someone else to take the job!

ipswichcrazy2011- so if anyone says anything anti MM they are not fans, sounds a bit like a fascist ideal you are peddling. Iam & have been a true fan for years & have seen some poor managers but none so arrogant, tactically inept & boring as this man. We are the laughing stock of the championship with the tactics used. God even John Duncan's teams played a bit of football. I hope Fulham pursue this, we get the money & a new young manager . Wonder what it would take to prise Eddie Howe away-that's just a fantasy,

So you are all happy with hoofball, players played out of position, Tabb, Smith Anderson etc, etc etc. Never mind be careful what you wish for, I wish to go and watch Ipswich Town play the Ipswich Town way, passing football on the ground with creative midfield players and a pacy wide man. I do not want to see another season of humping the ball up in the air to be gobbled up by the opposing defenders. Still, reading the posts on here it seem that's what most of you want. I don't know much about Warburton but he has done a fantastic job at Brentford. Just open your eyes there are good managers out there. The sooner Boring Billy goes the better

I dnt want mm to go I just wish he Wd quit the negative sh.t and try to play more attractive stuff. Also the stubborn tatics and team selections at times drive me mad. He saved us and has made us hard to beat, now is the time to move it on and develop into a better team to watch. Maybe the summer will hold one or two new players who can kick us on. I just worry if we dnt get up soon with all the parachute money and money from being in the prem, it's gng to get far harder by the year

'Playing football the Ipswich way' I am sorry but that old saying went out with the 'best playing surface in the league' and 'the academy that everyone envies'
As fans we have to take off the rose coloured spectacles - we are the longest serving second tier side - that has been caught up , passed by teams that went Prem- Champ- Div One- Champ-Div One
Football has changed and what owners want now is all about one thing - Money from the premiership - Fact
MM had us playing some pretty attacking football pre xmas and he is the man who bought Bishop , Williams , Dids , Mings , Bru , Parr , Sears into the squad .
Yes it IS frustrating but I think some people need to get real
What manager would come to a club with no money to spend - Eddie Howe - do me a favour ! He has the Russian Billionaire and Harry lined up to take em to rack and ruin in a few years - you just watch it happen - Harry does have previous

Yes blueherts football has changed which is why many Town fans believe MM's painfully direct and unsophisticated playing style will keep us in the Championship this season and beyond if he stays.

Improving on the abysmal records of Keane and Jewell does not make MM the next George Burley.

Yes Bluedandy - it was more the people I hear harping on about the old days - Yes we all loved it in the late 70s/early 80s and late 90s but football has changed
So I presume you give us no chance of making the play offs then with your comment ?
I repeat - where were all the dissenters in November and December ??

Yes , lets appoint Mark Warburton . Because he's acheived so much more in the game than our Mick ! Look how far ahead of us Brentford are ! And remind me how we did against them in our two fixtures ? Yeah warburton's the answer

We are not too far off but unfortunately I think the answer to further progress is Money

So no harm in this article, McCarthy can use this interest in his negotiation with ME for funding of the squad for 2015/16, unless we are in the premier league of course

Paul Lambert has just bought another house back in Colchester.
What could this possibly mean? :-)

Rranger- yes it is all about possession!!! If you have the ball the other team can't score....!

its not about town being on a budget, any team with practise can play the ball on the deck if they want to, they train every day, and are professional footballers, my sunday leauge team used to play better football than town do, i do like mick and hope he stays but for christ sake please make some changes, we need pace, width and getting people confident on the ball, i would rather a player loose the ball trying to play football than the defence just hoofing it up field and losing it. playoffs are probably gone altough you never know so lets see stewart and henshall out wide, bru and bishop in midfiled, skuse holding midfield and try and dominate in that are for once.

Mick is aware of whats going on about this second link to fulham. He could at least say is was a load of bull or say something. If i remember he did the same when he was linked with the ireland job again. He owes ipswich nothing and if anyone thinks different your deluded. He has family in london and he would have millions to spend at fulham. Iam angry the way norwich have caught up and taken over us in the league they where way behind at one point. for fooks sake bouremouth and brentford are tiny clubs. We have been waiting years just to get back in the playoffs.

@essexbluey, the size of the club matters not at any level below Premiership. A well run club from top to bottom, with or without money can eventually take you where you want to go. Unfortunately we've been mis managed for 4 years prior to McCarthy's appointment, thus time is needed to re build.
Personally up till Xmas I don't believe any other manager could of done a better job than McCarthy, with the tools he started with. Since Xmas I've been disappointed with the managers selections on the pitch, but that said, I don't think now is the time for inquests. The summertime will unfold people's positions at club, funding etc. Many are suggesting Mick has taken us as far as he can! Maybe he will feel the same, and move on. If this does happen all I I can say is, our next appointment has to be 100% correct, or I fear for the club, and it's status. With Mick we are in safe hands, but is that enough?

Be very careful what you wish for. Mick's a little rigid and far from a tactical genius, but he's still the best manager we've had in years. I just wish we'd got him when we got Roy Keane. If for any reason he did go, then Mark Warburton would also be my choice of replacement.

This would be the perfect scenario in my eyes----new young manager and money in the bank.

Mick has done a great job but think he has now reached his limit but it takes brave people and decisions to recognise that.

The guy at MK Dons would do for me.

@razor, the guy at MK Dons, Robinson, young energetic and positive!!! My question is this, where have MK Dons gone under his management?

After his poor tactics, bad signings and terrible selections, since January,I would be happy with this.

Even the statue of Michael Jackson could probably have managed the club better in the last 3 months, so what about a swap Fulham.

People bleat on about Mm having a house in London it would take him nearly as long to get to the fulham training ground from Bromley as it takes him to get to playford rd.

I am holding out to the end of the season as I was born on the traditional Ipswich philosophy that we are not a sacking club and this was borne out by the sir Bobby years but things have to change significantly and if mm is happy with one shot on the opposition goalie in 45 minutes and playing for a point against Huddersfield then we really have no chance at all. His is the worst type of football seen at Portman Road since the Romans rampaged over Anglia and if he is not willing to budge then maybe his time is up. Clearly hoofball has steadied the ship from the debacle of autumn 2012 but it is not a football to challenge the elite and get us out of the Championship and we can all see that and I hope he does too otherwise it might be time for a parting of the ways.

Mick won't leave Marcus their too 'in bed' with each other - but saying that if Fulham hang a giant £1M carrot in front of Mick's nose (as per Mr Evans did) then who knows!

Agree Mick has done a good job with the very limited budget he has had to work with but us as supporters deserve a bit more than MM keeping us away from the bottom half of the Championship which we have been in far far to long. Evans should realize he has a manager he can gamble a bit on when it comes to spending on players, MM has proven he's a far better bet then RK and PJ to get us promoted, if he doesn't do it I can't see us going any where quickly.
