Chambo: Murph Can Hit 30
Monday, 16th Feb 2015 16:11

Skipper Luke Chambers has backed 21-goal top goalscorer Daryl Murphy to hit the 30 mark before the end of the season.

The last Town player to hit the 30 league goals mark was Ray Crawford in the Blues’ 1961/62 First Division championship season when he totalled 33.

The year before, as Town won the old Second Division title, Crawford scored 40 while strike partner Ted Phillips netted 30.

“What a season he is having and I think 30 goals has got to be the aim for him now,” Chambers told the club site. “We’ve got 15 games left so why can’t he keep this form going?

“If he doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world as long as other players are chipping in, but with the form Murph is in and the type of player he is, I think he’s certainly capable of being a 30-goals-a-season player.”

Chambers revealed that following Saturday’s 2-1 win at Fulham, Freddie Sears made an unsuccessful claim for Murphy's first goal.

“Searsy has a little case for the first goal, as he says he got a nick on it and he was trying to claim it but it’s Murph’s goal,” the Blues skipper added.

“Freddie has only just come through the door and I don’t think he wanted to upset too many people and he’s had to bite the bullet a bit on this one!

“He claims he got a touch on it and said so after the game but Murph was having none of it and Freddie has had to back down!

“That’s the spirit we’ve got here at the minute and I can tell you that every player was buzzing after the game on Saturday and it was the same when we came in for training today.

“At the end of the day though, it doesn’t matter who is scoring the goals as long as we are doing that and with Murph, Freddie, Didz and Noel - we’ve got four very good strikers who are all capable of chipping in.”

I wish we wouldn't big up players ,all that happens is they go dry ,whether thats expectation or what i have no idea , better to say i bet hes peaked and thats his lot ,he will want to prove everyone wrong etc etc etc. Murph is having an incredible season , lets hope his form continues ,but lets not mount pressure on him

The replay made it look like it was clearly Freddie's goal (although of course Daryl wouldn't have known).

@bluefeast... sorry, but that's wrong. Read a sports phychology book - If you don't have a target to aim for you won't achieve anything
