McCarthy: No Taylor Calls
Friday, 16th Jan 2015 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says he’s yet to receive any calls regarding striker Paul Taylor, whose loan at Rotherham is up next week.

“I haven’t had any calls about him and I don’t know what [Millers boss] Steve Evans is doing yet,” McCarthy said. “I don’t know if he’s released him or not.”

Taylor's last Rotherham appearance came as a sub almost a month ago. Having made a bright start to his time at the New York Stadium, the 27-year-old striker has failed to find the net in 13 starts and four sub appearances and has been an increasingly peripheral figure.

Millers boss Steve Evans isn't ruling out Taylor staying with his club.

"His loan with us is up with us on Saturday and my understanding is that he's due for a meeting with Mick McCarthy at the weekend," he told Millers Player.

"It wouldn't be my place to ask Mick McCarthy what he's thinking about Paul Taylor before he has that conversation with the kid himself.

"I think he's carried a few little niggles and illness in the last three weeks and we've not been able to get him on the pitch. Last week he wasn't able to travel and he was ill over Christmas.

"We need to know what the mechanics are as to what the deal would be from Ipswich. Whether he comes out of there on a loan situation or a permanent situation, whether there are commitments beyond the summer.

"That becomes a conversation between ourselves, the chairman and the vice-chairman."

McCarthy said last week that along with Anthony Wordsworth, who joined Crawley following his return from Rotherham yesterday, Taylor will have to find a new club: "They won’t be coming back and playing. It’s up to them to get themselves clubs or get themselves deals elsewhere."

McCarthy says it never happened for midfielder Wordsworth, who like Taylor is out of contract at the end of the season, following his switch from Colchester two years ago this month.

“He had his opportunities, but he got injured a bit as well, he fractured his spine against Hull when he got kneed in the back,” the Town manager added.

“He got off to an awful start with injuries and never really got going. Hopefully he’ll get some football there.”

We'd be 10 points clear at the top if Taylor was playing for us!

Clearly something lacking somewhere. Not playing for Rotherham, a championship club, having been sent out on loan by another championship club, and don't forget his spell at Peterborough. MM sad something he didn't like, my guess would be his character, or rather lack of, and maybe a negative influence.

We would have been promoted by now Dav86!
That was a really wierd signing. If memory serves right it was Paul Jewell who signed himand we were in for George Boyd which would have been a decent signing, but instead they offered us Taylor for an (in my opinion) overinflated price tag.
It's like going to the supermarket for stuff for the BBQ and coming home with chocolate.
I wasn't at all excited by the signing, but gave the benefit of the doubt. I really appreciate that McCarthy has put together a squad of players that I can personally respect and feel proud to be associated with.

Like someone said yesterday, if you look him up on Wikipedia, his record of misdemeanours is terrible! Mos everywhere he's been he's left in acrimony!

I feel sorry for the guy who obviously has behavioural issues or bad friends and that, but for the sake of our team the best we can do is pay him off

No way should we pay him off let him train on his own until he realises that he needs to improve and show why we paid all the money for him.

Europablue - we were in for both and had talks, but Boyd didn't agree terms.

This is not really surprising, he has not exactly set the the world on fire , looks like he will slide into obscurity .

Guthrum, you are right and then we got the worst one out of the two for the combined price such was are ability to negotiate in those days. ;)

Lets not start on players we couldn't agree terms with... Keep thinking of Charlie Austin

Football wise there was never a problem with Taylor, at least there shouldn't have been. But it's probably clear he doesn't fit in with the rest of the squad character wise.

£1m pound player goes on loan, doesn't play or set the world on fire. 4 months later has contract ripped up and player paid off.

What is the motivation for Taylor to do anything at the moment.

I can't understand for the life of me why anybody would think we'd be better of if we'd of had him playing with us this season. Also the fact that some people think he deserves a 2nd chance is laughable. Mick hasn't got much wrong previously and I suspect he's got this 1 right too.
