Ambrose Wants to Stay
Monday, 5th Jan 2015 13:06

Midfielder Darren Ambrose has confirmed that he wants to remain with the Blues beyond the end of his short-term deal on January 10th. Manager Mick McCarthy has said he wants to keep the 30-year-old, who scored in yesterday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw at Southampton, the first start of his third spell with the club.

"I've made it clear I want to be back here playing,” Ambrose told Radio Suffolk. “I'm pleased to have made a start and a contribution.

"It was my first game in a long, long time and my legs started to tire. All in all I felt really happy to be out there.

"The manager has called me in and asked me my thoughts. I have no reason to leave whatsoever.

"It's a difficult one, because I haven't played as much as I would have hoped - but the team has been fantastic, so I'm not throwing my arms up and moaning. I want to stay, 100%, there's nowhere else I'm looking to go.”

Having rejoined Town in September, Ambrose says he’s enjoying football again after a frustrating couple of years with Birmingham where he rarely played before moving to Greek side Apollon Smyrni on loan in January.

“It's been a difficult few years, not playing. But I've got the love back now, playing with this team and this manager. It's changed my opinion of football once again and now I love it again.”

The academy product seems set to sign a deal until the end of the season.

Yesterday’s goal was Ambrose’s first for the Blues since Town’s 3-2 victory over Sheffield United at Portman Road in February 2003, two days before the club announced it was going into the period of administration which led to the midfielder’s £1 million sale to Newcastle United just over a month later.

It's a pity Bent not like him.

One thing about Ambrose you can guarantee that he is at the club for the badge on the front not the name on the back. Sign him up :)

Easiest decision MM will make this year ! Sign him up.

The Bish cannot play every minute of every game and without him we have little forward spark from Midfield despite how different they may be as players.

Might even coach The Bish (and Mingsy) on reasons why not to jump at first premiership offer that gets thrown at him, not that Darren had much of a choice at the time one suspects.

The midfield has worked out surprsingly well for us this season. I for one did not see it coming, I ddin't really fancy Kevin Bru in the early days & must admit that I made an unfair assumption that he would be one of those foreigners who wouldn't be prepared to get stuck in when needed. Now with the emergence of Teddy Bishop, a re-born Jay Tabb plus the additon of Darren Ambrose we have options and strength in depth. Paul Anderson and Stephen Hunt can also do a job as part of Mick's preferred 3-man midfield behind the 3 up front when called upon.
We would not really be that much weaker now if we had to swap:
Skuse - Bishop - Tabb with Hyam - Bru - Ambrose (or whatever your chosen combinaton is) and confidence is allowing them all to play without the fear or caution we have seen in previous years.

I do still expect a couple of additions to come in over the coming weeks and if available Jonny Williams would be welcomed back, but the main focus should be up front. If either McGoldrick (just as important as his strike partner despite the lower return of goals) or Murphy was to pick up an injury we would find goals hard to come by at the business end of the season.

Always got a goal in him so he's very useful to have as back up. Can't see him pushing ahead of Kevin Bru, Hyam, Skuse etc as our main starter in midfield though. Took his goal very well yesterday!

THAILAND_BLUE, while you might be right in your assertion, you are guessing and there's a world of difference between someone who is out of contract and one who is on Premier league wages, which we cannot afford, so probably had no opportunity to come here. I like Ambrose and it was a shame he didn't do himself justice last time he was here on loan. Regarding our midfield, it is to MM and TC's credit that we changed all 4 midfield without too much disturbance to overall performance and hopefully that will be good enough to see us through the rigours of the rest of the season.

On the assumption he isn't going to cost the club a fortune in wages I say sign him up to the end of the season. He may be knocking on a bit in years but he has vision and I believe he still has a love for the club which will give him the incentive to work a bit harder than some in his position. If MM and TC rate him that's good enough for me.
50years a blue - good point you make about the 4 changes to midfield at Southampton and this bodes well for the second half of the season, though I am still a bit jittery about Murphy and McGoldrick remaining injury free. I'm not so sure we have the cover up front that we seem to have at the back and in midfield.

Completely approve of this decision by MM, A top quality professional who has the club at his heart. One of those players who can score goals for a midfielder as well which is great to see due to the lack of goals we gain from midfield.Good luck to him!

Still has plenty to offer if he can stay fit.
In other news Agent Adams has resigned from the Scum

I always knew that Darren would show us again his quality, yesterday's goal was little short of brilliant, I really hope that Mick keeps him here, he is a true Blue..

I have always been a huge Darren Ambrose fan, and was delighted for him (as well as us all!) yesterday when he scored that phenomenal header (it was so good the wife was convinced it was Murphy!). Given he started RM, I can easily see him pushing Ando for a spot in the starting XI over the rest of the season. Ando has improved a lot over the course of this season (from a terribly low base it has to be said), but we still need an upgrade in wide midfield (both right and left tbh) now that MM has gone back to 442.

Keeping him is a no brainer when fully fit he will be a great addition for the run in, I notice that the arrogant Mr Adams whose attitude stank at Portman Road earlier this season has left before pushed!!!!!! poor man feel really sorry for him!!!!!!

Delighted Ambrose wants to hang around, he's only 30 for goodness sake! Quality, remember his goal for Palace against Man Utd a couple of years ago.

Hope the Budgies won't choose a proper manager now Lee Mack's resigned.

therein61 der-wtf has Adams leaving got to do with us. Have you forgotten how abysmal IT were that day which forced MM to make changes. I'd prefer Narwich to join us in the Premier as it still is one of the great days out at either PR or CR.,
