Premier Pair Linked With Bishop
Saturday, 3rd Jan 2015 10:10

Arsenal and Manchester United are eyeing Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop, according to one of this morning’s papers.

The Sun reports that there is increasing interest in Bishop, who is said to be valued at £10 million, from Premier League sides with the Gunners claimed to be “ready to beat” the Red Devils for his signature. Both clubs have regularly been represented at Town games this season.

Bishop, 18, has made a big impression since breaking into the first team at the start of the season. In September he signed a contract until 2016 with an option for a further season.

Manager Mick McCarthy said yesterday that he was aware Bishop had joined Tyrone Mings in catching the attention of top flight clubs: “[Teddy] is attracting almost as much interest as Tyrone Mings.”

The Town boss also reiterated that he expects owner Marcus Evans to rebuff all but the most "ridiculous" offers for his players: "There’s nothing I can do if someone wants to bid for players. All I know is that he’ll turn it down."

Meanwhile, former Blue Darren Bent has joined Town’s promotion rivals Derby County on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

I would add to your comments Harry the need for a wage cap for young players. I would like to see a cap for players under 21 (maybe even under 23 ) limited to say 10k a week. I think this would discourage youngster from being poached all over the club and encourage them to stay and develop. I would also insist that extras be limited IE being put up in posh digs, goal bonuses etc etc. It basically takes the biggest lure out from under the big boys feet because as stated above why would you want to sit on the bench or get farmed out all over the place, especially if you're not earning much more money. Yes the cudos of being on the books at Utd or Chelski must be a fantastic feeling but true players want to play. If was good enough to turn out for town week in week out for a couple of grand a week I'd be ecstatic and living the dream.

And how might these 2 clubs further the players careers do they think? By buying them, loaning them out or at best an occasional substitute appearance. Let them be, let them learn their trade a few more years and then like Cresswell, take the Premier League by storm. How many players have we seen leave Portman Road a season or 2 too early and never reach their full potential, or become injury prone. Too much too soon is never a good idea. Rich Premier League clubs are ruining the development of many young promising footballers.

My how things have changed since Mick arrived,as nobody interested in the players we had,and some we had to pay up their contracts.
Like most on here hope ME does not sell in this window;but also strengthen squad slightly. It seems a sorry day when our club who's ground is three times as big as Bournemouth', who have also never been in the top flight;cannot compete with them for players as Mick alluded to in his pre match comments;and with Derby signing Bent both our main competitors have strengthened already

Maybe we should use the transfer window to bring in Nick Powell and Scott Sinclair on loan? Help improve the quality of the squad and give our young players a glimpse of the negatives of a move to a big club too early in their careers.

Please tell me what is the point in either leaving? It is too early they have only just started their 1st season of pro football, moving at this stage will not benefit them in the slightest. If they are that good then they will still get a move to a huge club. If they move now will play reserve football and maybe a cup game here or there. Stay put lads and make premier with us. COYB!!!!

This time of year is always a nightmare, fans dreading losing players or worrying that needed player/players arent signed.Much speculation ,scaremongering, denials. At the end of the day we can say what we like, the situation is beyond our control.Hopefully these two lads will at least want to see it through with Town this season, and hopefully they will move to the prem WITH Town .Mick wont want to lose them thats for sure, but money talks .
