Wenger: We're Not Signing Mings
Tuesday, 23rd Dec 2014 12:37

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed claims that he will look to sign Town left-back Tyrone Mings during the January transfer window.

The Frenchman had previously confirmed that his club has been watching the 21-year-old and the Gunners have repeatedly been linked with a January move for the former Chippenham Town man.

But asked whether he would be signing Mings to help solve his side’s defensive problems, Wenger said: "No. The intensity of the link is not down to us.”

Arsenal are amongst a host of Premier League clubs to have regularly sent representatives to watch Mings in action this season.

Despite the interest, Town boss Mick McCarthy has repeatedly stated that he expects to keep his better players in the January transfer window and has said it would take an “astronomical bid” for someone such as Mings to be sold.

So who is fuelling the speculation? his agent, Town or journalists.

The last thing Mings needs is to be spending his time sitting on the Arsenal bench or shunted out on loan rather than playing week-in-week-out with Ipswich, developing into the top class player he can become. Let's hope we see Mings in the Premier League with Ipswich sometime soon. :-)

This is great news because is they came in with a big big bid we might have to accept it! But just all remember this could be mind games from Wenger!

He's hardly likely to come out and say "yes we are trying to sign him" is he?

"Van Persie is going nowhere. He will sign a new contract with us."

That's good news but there are more clubs interested I feel Tyrone still learning his craft and he is not the finished product yet

Any comments made just before a transfer window are broadly meaningless. Hopefully we can keep all our squad as there seems to be unity.

Why would you go to Arsenal as a young upcoming player that is playing well and just got into our team, especially as the current left back is an International player. .. look back at the history books and see what a great career move it was for a certain Richard Wright.

People saying why would he move?

One simple reason. Arsenal could probably double his take home.

You have to hope Mings is patient enough to give it until the end of the season, where he can double his take home anyway if we win. Or double it anyway, by still moving to a PL club.

Oh, and if Evans wants to sell.

I think Mings is bright enough to realise that now is not the time for him to be even thinking of a move away from ITFC who have nurtured him and are still nurturing him.

Wenger has probably been told 'no chance'.

76blue, i agree with your comments 100%.
Mings is the best young defender to play for our club since Beattie. Marcus Evans has waited 5 years plus to get his name & club into the top division. Do you think that selling Mings will achieve this

"whether he would be signing Mings to help solve his side's defensive problems"

So he won't be signing him to come into the side and sure things up, but he will be signing him as one for the future then ?

Ipswichlove, Wenger is just about the only manager who has any integrity in the Premiership & if he says that I believe him. If it had been Sir Alex I would have said bullshxt

I saw Wenger say this on Sky Sports. When asked the question about Mings he acted like a toddler who had been asked if he took a sweet without asking. He looked guilty, swallowed hard, said 'no', then blinked. His body language certainly looked like he was lying to me.

Has anyone asked Wenger if he's seen Mings? He doesn't seem to see much when interviewed!

Damn right you're not, we've told you enough times "We aren't selling in January!!"
