Marriott on Target
Sunday, 14th Dec 2014 16:55

Striker Jack Marriott scored one and created one as his loan club Woking beat Eastleigh 2-0 at home in the first round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Marriott, who is with the Cards until January 4th, provided the cross for Josh Payne’s 30th minute opener then netted the third goal of his third spell with the Vanarama Conference side in the 72nd minute.

"Elsewhere, Paul Taylor came on in the 82nd minute as Rotherham drew 0-0 at home with Nottingham Forest in the Championship. Anthony Wordsworth missed out having picked up a knock.

In League One, Frank Nouble missed Coventry’s 2-0 away win against Freddie Veseli’s Port Vale. The striker was the unlucky sixth loanee with clubs only permitted to include five in their matchday 18s. Swiss defender Veseli played the full 90 minutes for Vale.

Elliott Hewitt was subbed at half-time for Colchester as they lost 4-1 at home to Rochdale and dropped to second bottom of the table.

Marroit seems to really have gone off the boil, I wonder if he has a future at ITFC. He seemed to have so much potential but somehow he doesn't seem to be able to cut it at a level higher than he is playing at. I do hope that this is not the case and he prove himself at PR but I think he will be out on loan again.

Jack has proven he is more than good enough for this level and needs to test himself at a higher level. He was hoping for a move to a League 2 club but it diddnt happen, I think he was a bit deflated afterwards.

He is nowhere near the ITFC first team at the moment, not sure if he would fit in to MM style of play as it stands. However if he improves and shows he deserves a place in first team/squad Im sure MM will use him.

He needs games for his development so best he is out on loan. Just a shame it's not a a football league club because I think he is certainly good enough. Personally I think he would actually be more likely to nick us a goal from the bench than some of our other first team options.

I'm glad the term "unlucky sixth loanee" is no longer in reference to a Town squad...

Marriott is nowhere near good enough to play for Town and neither is Hewitt. Fair enough to give them a go but they won't figure in any future town team.

Frank Nouble has not done much lately either seems he is struggling to get in the team now,Jack Marriot i believe would do better at a higher level if its the right move for him otherwise stay here where he was doing well you don't just loose the goal scoring ability he most defiantly has. Hewitt will be okay he is progressing.

I don't understand those that say Marriott can't do it at a higher level. He hasn't really been given a chance. One loan to Gillingham and one to Carlisle and 2 appearances to show for it does not count as being given a chance. He needs a season at a League 2 club that want to play him up top week in week out and then we will see how good he is. Still early to make a judgement in my opinion and I really don't mind if we do not see the best of him for another 2 years. Patience.

the problem with a striker its all down to how the midfieldis playing at the time, last year woking was playing well with good service, i think this year they are struggling in that dept a bit, persoannly i would rather him play in our under 21 and come on here and there for the first team esp if we go 3 up front, then be left down in the conferance
