McGoldrick in No Rush to Move On
Friday, 21st Nov 2014 06:00

Town striker David McGoldrick may be reluctant to discuss his contract situation but could not be more insistent that he sees his future at Portman Road.

McGoldrick’s current deal is not just through to the end of the current campaign because the club have triggered the relevant clause and taken up their option to retain his services for a further 12 months, thereby keeping him on board until at least the end of the 2015/16 season.

That situation could only change if Town, who rejected Leicester’s £7 million offer in August, had a change of heart and decided to cash in on a subsequent bid for the player from one of the many clubs monitoring his situation at Portman Road. Or, as seems more likely right now, if the club offered a fresh deal aimed at extending his stay.

McGoldrick admitted: “I’m not really worrying about my contract at the minute. That’s down to the club and my people but I’m happy here right now. I’m playing good football in a team full of boys I really like, so long may it continue.

“I’m really happy here — happy with the manager, the staff and the rest of the players — and I’m playing for the present. Things are going well and I’m still here. There is a clause in the contract that the club have triggered, which means I am here until 2016, and I’m not in any rush to go anywhere at the minute.”

McGoldrick’s career has been on an upward curve since he joined Town, initially on loan in January last year and then on a permanent deal once he was a free agent six months later following the expiry of his deal at hometown club Nottingham Forest.

He added: “I’ve got a lot to thank Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor for, plus all the staff here. They have worked on me and given me a lot of confidence. I’ve played week in, week out in the Championship in a good team, an honest team, and it has gone really well for me.”

It sounds as though Didz also has a wise head on him as well. Not surprised though. You can see he's a thinker when you watch him play for ITFC.

I have often heard it said, that good players always seem to have time to pick out a pass. McGoldrick has that class. Please stay with us David.
