Town Confirm Williams Loan
Monday, 29th Sep 2014 09:44

Town have confirmed that Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams has rejoined the Blues on a 93-day loan, as TWTD revealed on Saturday. The Wales international is at Playford Road this morning training with the squad ahead of the trip to South Yorkshire for Tuesday’s game at Sheffield Wednesday.

“I’m delighted to have him back in the squad,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “On the back of four wins, which is great for us, it’s great for us to be getting a player of his quality come in.

“I think one of his concerns when he was deciding where he was going to go - because he had a number of options, as you can imagine - was whether he would play because we’ve been playing well.”

McCarthy says Williams, who was interesting his former Eagles boss Dougie Freedman at Bolton in addition to other Championship clubs, is fit enough to be involved at Hillsborough: "He played against Newcastle [in the Capital One Cup] the other night and got 80 minutes, he's fine."

The Town boss was able to reassure the 20-year-old that he would get games while at Portman Road: “You tell them anything to get them in through the door!

“If you think we’re signing Jonny Williams, as good as he was the last time, and he’s going to be sat warming the bench during his loan spell, that’s not going to happen.

“Everybody saw him last year and it’ll give everybody a lift and a boost. On the back of the results to see him coming in, knowing what quality he is.”

Palace will be entitled to recall Williams at 24 hours' notice after the first 28 days of his loan at Portman Road, as is standard with these deals.

As is often the case when the Blues have two games in quick succession, Williams and the rest of the squad underwent cryotherapy in a portable facility parked in the Playford Road car park prior to training this morning.

This sees them enter a chamber at temperatures down to -130°C for around two minutes while wearing nothing other than shorts, protection against frostbite on their knees and elbows, gloves, goggles and a hat.

The process removes lactic acid and prevents muscle damage, thereby aiding recovery.

EITHER he will "share games" with Bishop - and then Bishop will be even stronger after 3 months as not over-played too soon ...

OR

He will replace Sammon as third striker

Either way - we will have a bench to match any as well as a solid and structured first 11 .... for 3 months. THEN our own players will shine - or we will take a view and sign someone else in January.

Seems Ambrose may not feature too often - just cannot see him getting time unless he really changes from the Wigan few minutes. Collison must regain previous form also to get near starting 11 at the moment

REALLY EXCITING TIMES !!

While I'm delighted to see JW back, it makes the signing of Ambrose and less so Collison baffling, why waste the wages on Ambrose? Surely with Skuse, Hyam, Bishop, Bru, probably Collison and now JW, all in front in the pecking order, it seems pointless

Absolutely cracking signing, totally amazes that it has happened as I honestly thought he would go elsewhere. Devoid for far too long to have something to cheer about but slowly and surely the jigsaw is taking shape .
I can see an entertaining season ahead....Norwich look over your shoulder here we come.

Excellent news. Would have thought Sammon will drop out, with Williams playing in a more forward midfield role. Midfield looking good. Still concerned if McGoldrick or Murphy pick up an injury ( I am personally still unconvinced by Sammon whilst Bajner doesn't look ready yet). Otherwise squad is looking very competitive.

On paper, the squad of midfield players for the next 3 months looks as strong as it has done for an awfully long time. We now have good competition for places all over the pitch although I do agree Jas0999 that our striking options if injuries occur there may be a bit thin. Hopefully, the more attack minded midfielders will step up to the plate & start regularly chipping in with more goals. Welcome back JW.

I have been a long term supporter of Mr McCarthy, but after the Norwich result I began to have my doubts. Several wins on the trot plus this signing have laid those doubts to rest.

Mind you, wouldn't it be so typical if we were beaten by Wednesday ...

Pleased to see a quality player join , but concerned how we can keep eleven midfield players happy without causing some disruption
