McGoldrick's Leicester Move Looks Off
Monday, 1st Sep 2014 15:00

Leicester City are understood to have ended their interest in Town striker David McGoldrick and are turning their attention to other targets.

The Foxes made a renewed bid - believed to be £7 million - for the 26-year-old yesterday, having had an initial offer of £6.5 million turned down on Friday.

Town owner Marcus Evans is understood to have wanted £8 million for the former Nottingham Forest man.

Leicester are now reported to have made a bid for Manchester United striker Tom Lawrence, while they also hope to sign his team-mate Nick Powell on loan.

McGoldrick continues to be linked with Crystal Palace, however, the Eagles are said to have made a bid for Leicester’s Chris Wood and are also being mentioned in connection with Norwich’s Gary Hooper and Wolves’ Kevin Doyle.

Meanwhile, the Blues are claimed to have turned down an offer of £2.5 million from Palace for left-back Tyrone Mings, according to one report. Whether or not that figure is an exaggeration it does appear that the 21-year-old won’t be joining the Eagles.

Elsewhere, new academy addition Adam McDonnell was at the club this morning to sign his two-year pro deal. The 17-year-old central midfielder was previously with Dublin side Shelbourne and spent time on trial with Town in the summer, featuring in the friendly at Braintree.

In what currently looks like being a quiet final day of the transfer window at Portman Road, one switch which may happen is Byron Lawrence joining Colchester United following his recent trial, despite U’s manager Joe Dunne having been sacked earlier today.

The 18-year-old, who is available on a free transfer, is well-known to Colchester’s academy manager Tony Humes and development coach Richard Hall from their time with the Blues’ youth set-up.

and also, ur point about mancity. it was stated on sky sports this morning that in order to even try to sign falcao(had that been an option), they needed to get money in from [players leaving due to their breaking the ffp rules, so yes it has affected them

why does everyone have it in their head that McGoldrick is gonna be 'one unhappy player' now.. From what I've seen last season he loved it at Portman Road. Was scoring goals for fun and revelled in his role as the main man. He's have been unhappy with that injury of his, but now he's fit and playing, I'm sure if no deals are done today, he'll continue to be our best forward player for many a fine year. He has a good understanding with Murphy, and would you replace him with any other strikers in our division? No you wouldnt. if we'd have got £8 million, then great business, but if we keep him then even better. We have a player that scores goals for us and creates for others... They dont grow on trees people

ur not totally wrong mariner1974. he may well not be unhappy. apparently, schneiderlin is not unhappy at Southampton despite being denied a move, but it could just as easily, as some have said on here that he could be. even mm stated in his interview sat that he didn't want to be left with dids feeling resentful and basically not giving a damn nemore

None of us know what the conditions to any deal were.
Perhaps Leicester were only offering a small payment up front and wanted to pay the rest over a long term.

Well done ME!

There is no way (at this stage of the transfer window) that we have been able to replace McGoldrick with anyone nearly as good - so why let him go for less than £8m?

So ITFC supporters, lets now cheer on McGoldrick at every opportunity so that he is in no doubt about how much we think of him.

If you look at last three clubs / 8-9 years of three players mentioned
Different ages admittedly ;
WOOD 48 goals in 165 apps
DIDS 64 goals in 235 apps
MURRAY 111 in 255 apps

blues1 ... there are a number of players for free or without clubs at present , the demand for a big fee for signing on has long gone , they are equally as desperate as the clubs now .

As for your points on FFP you are looking at it in a very simplistic almost childish way , nobody has set down markers for the punishments that clubs will receive as of yet so to enforce any of them will be time consuming and costly to the governing bodies that clubs will be able to avoid through all sorts of loopholes regarding incoming money , random ground sales . sponsors etc a lawyers paradise .
If they put an embargo on signings for a season after you have signed a number of players and broken the laws it matters not as you would already have the players to get you promotion ?

blues1 as i said before wages wise we are probably better off this season having released more players than we brought in, some of those players released having been on far more than the new boys. So no Cresswell money need there.
As for signing on fees i cant imagine we paid much at all to Bajner and Bru, they were grateful just to get contracts, as for Parr and Bialkowski they arent exactly househould names, i think its safe to say it cost a tiny fraction of the Cresswell money to get them on board.
Out of the initial 4 mill id be surprised if its cost more than 200k in signing on and agents fees and we're up on wages so why do we continue to hide behind FFP?

This is a very brave decision by Marcus Evans and in his position I would definitely have taken the £7m. McGoldrick will never be valued at that price again with his contract running down and him not getting any younger. Has he fully recovered from his injury - time will tell but unless he hits 12 or so goals by January we could get nothing for him ? Don't get me wrong I love the bloke and he is class but £7M - I think the Club have missed out here but proves if nothing else Mr Evans is dedicated to the cause of ITFC despite his many critics on here.

Blues1 sorry mate but I still don't understand why you think that we have an ambitious owner just because he is keeping hold of what we have already got! Surely a truly ambitious owner would allow us to sign some reinforcements of free transfers and keep Goldy as well? I find it quite comical that some are now praising ME for basically doing nothing! FFP is a smoke screen and ME is hiding behind it to justify his lack of ambition the is no other explanation. Only a complete moron would allow 5 players to leave the club without bringing in any suitable replacements! I have been a big supporter of MM but this Summer his transfer policy has been utterly clueless and believe me we will reap what we sow!

if he doesn't go, they'll try and extend his contract pretty swiftly and make him feel extra loved. He already knows he's the main man, and MM has spent most of last year stating how much he loves him. Players like money and they like to be loved. I cant see that he'd want to leave on a free transfer anywhere, when he has a club that values him so highly

All very nice Matiner but what you do forget is that he has the chance to play in the Premiership which is something we can never offer him so long as we have Evans at the helm!

If McGoldrick is worth £7m what on Earth is Rhodes worth? £100m?
For £7m they should be pulling Leicester's arms off.

Sounds like it's going to be another quiet window close at Portman Road, but as we don't have any money to spend on someone who will genuinely improve the squad, I for one am quite happy with that situation.

Moaners are always gonna moan.

Leicester bought Ulloa from Brighton for £8 million, a player who scored the same amount as McGoldrick last season with more matches played. That price sets a benchmark that ME very sensibly stuck to.

Why should we always be content with our top players leaving on the cheap? Same goes for the Mings offer at 2.5 million, what will selling off our prized assets on the cheap to possible rivals next season achieve?

Good on ME for showing some resolve.

I honestly can't believe the comments I am seeing. Accept the offer and for what? Us to go backwards?! Mick clearly said on Saturday he'd see the prolific Sammon as the replacement, it's so obvious Mick would get hardly if not any of the money to spend and would be his away for 'wages'. McGoldrick is a professional, he'll find a way of just getting on with doing well for Ipswich again.

Mixture of emotions at present...good if he stays but as mentioned will he want to get away now a Premiership club has been sniffing about. Also if we could have got at least £7M for him that would have gone a long way to re-investing on the pitch (if we trust the owner to do so). So currently it's a bit of a case of 'what if'...lots of time left to run though before the window closes.

Don't worry boys we're getting Fulham reject Tunnicliffe back on loan!

Just the creative goal scoring dynamo that we need to solve our midfield conundrum!

jwm. was just about to agree with you there as tour point about didsys wish to play in the prem. but then u have to just spoil it with ur mindless drivel .u clearly didn't listen to mark murphy on radio Suffolk last week, who interviewed me and stated that me is totally committed to this club and to getting it into the premier league. just because he refuses to ne longer just throw money at it doesn't mean hes not ambitious to get there. so hes allowed 5 players to leave without replacements. loach went, bialkowski in. green gone, stewart and henshall have both come in. Richardson gone, Hewitt is back from loan, cresswell gone, parr in, so basically only player not replaced is Williams(which we do need to do), but maybe bishop or bru will fil that void, if given the opportunity by mm. that of course remains to be seen,. so think u should get ur numbers right
