McCarthy: Evans Doesn't Want to Do McGoldrick Deal
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 18:30

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Leicester City have made a bid for Blues striker David McGoldrick, but says owner Marcus Evans isn’t keen to do the deal.

“Yes, they have bid,” he confirmed after the Blues’ 1-1 draw at Derby, which McGoldrick missed due to what McCarthy says was a genuine injury.

“He did actually have a dead leg, whether anybody believes me or not. Had it been the cup final at Wembley I think we probably we would have nursed him through that one. But I’m of a mind that you need everybody 100 per cent, physically and mentally.”

He says the decision will be owner Evans’s and not his: “If one does go, that won’t be down to me that will be down to what Leicester are bidding and what Marcus decides is the right [price].

“Let me tell you, Marcus doesn’t want it to happen, but sometimes… it’s not unstoppable because Marcus, if he wanted to stop it then he could, that’s for sure.

“But then I’m always of a mind that you need players of 100 per cent playing with you all the time and, I have to be honest, I think if David had been playing today and got injured and there was then no chance of it happening, it would have been nice for us because we would have been keeping him. But if it was going to happen, he’d never forgive himself, and neither would I.”

Asked whether the potential move had turned McGoldrick’s head, he added: “Of course it has! A Premier League club comes in for you, it’s near your home, you can go back and live in your own house, there’ll be more money. It would distract me as well.

“I’m not worried about that, of course it does, there’s no point in saying it hasn’t. But he did have a knock, he got knocked on Thursday.

“But, as I say if it was a matter of him walking out at Wembley on cup final day I’m sure we would have nursed him.”

He admits McGoldrick’s exit on top of Aaron Cresswell having moved on would be a big blow: “It would be a right kick in the bollocks, but I’ll let the market forces and Marcus deal with all that and [whether] Leicester want to keep pushing and see what they do.”

Earlier in the summer Ross McCormack moved from Leeds to Fulham for £11 million and Leonardo Ulloa joined Leicester from Brighton for £8 million, the same as the reported fee offered for McGoldrick.

McCarthy believes McGoldrick is the best of the three: “Let me tell you, I think he’s better than all of them, I do.

“All right, he didn’t get 28 goals [unlike McCormack] , he got 16 but he missed more than two months of the season. He was outstanding for us.

“If that’s the market, that’s the market and I think people have to pay accordingly or it doesn’t happen.”

If the deal was done would he look to replace the 26-year-old? “I’m cool with what I’ve got there today.

“Big Frank came on, people might say ‘why did he play instead of Balint’, well because he came on wide right and he can do that job, that’s why that happened.”

Like Evans, McCarthy doesn’t want McGoldrick to move on, but says he is aware of the way things work in football.

“He doesn’t want to do it and neither do I. I don’t want to lose him physically, but I’d hate to lose him emotionally for a long time.

“I have to be honest and if it was me in that position, I’d be putting my boots on every Saturday with a whole load of resentment and a whole load of CBA - Can’t Be Arsed - for a little bit of a while.

“That’s not what I want, although I know Didz has got huge respect for me and the club, and I have for him. But it can materialise that.”

He says he's not had the type of conversation with McGoldrick where has indicated that he wants to go: “I haven’t had that discussion with him. He knows [the offer]’s there. If it turns out being the right thing as it was with Cressy, then maybe it has to happen.”

The Town boss says he’s unsure whether the deal will go through as things stand: “I don’t know, Marcus doesn’t want him to go.”

He added: “I give pragmatic and honest reasons. I could sit here and waffle and give you a load of bollocks and sit here and tell you whatever I want to lie about. I’m not going to do that.

“I know the way football works, so you can all write whatever you like about what I’ve said, I’m finished on that, but you know the scenario.

“Big boys come and throw a big cheque at it and sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t.”

I don't believe a word of it from MM that if McG goes he wouldn't look to replace him and spend the cash... but if he announces that it might make us feel better, but will also drive the price up on anyone he wants to sign... its a poker game and Jewell and keane were useless at it...which is why they paid over the odds for players or signed players they didn't really want because clubs priced them out of the ones they wanted. he's been here two years and he's never done the media BS on transfers...he's always kept his poker face on. MM is not an idiot, but if he openly says as some managers do that he's desperate for players....you pay the prices desperate people pay for anything.

Palestine - those who spend £30+ to watch ITFC (and thousands do) is because they love the club, win, lose or draw (always have always will). Happy, clappie, delusionary? Bollxxxxx ITID.

£8m quid+ would be great business. Remember that until MM we had to pay them to go.

We have, I think, now got to the stage where we can almost second guess what is going to happen next when MM says:

1) Cresswell is the best left back in league = up for sale.
2) Tyrone's been great for us = will be dropped for the next match
3) The owner deals with bid for players = player due to be sold soon.
4) Great young prospect = going to go out on loan
5) Tabby, Skusey, Gerky = foundation of team and the untouchables
6) Works hard for the team, great character = my type of player but with average talent.
7) Not my type of player = creative and / or positive
8) Great result = draw
9) Talented opposition with great players = why we didn't get the draw.
10) Unlucky = Berra didn't score or we gifted them a goal

Approach

11) Everyone gets a fresh start - unless I don't like them
12) You don't drop players for one mistake - unless I don't like then
13) You don't drop players for several mistakes - if they're great like Tabby and Gerky.

Would be gutted to see McGoldrick go, but if Mick could negotiate a deal that would bring Chris Wood to us as part of the transfer then that would make me much happier. £8 million is a good deal but from McGoldrick's point of view would he get in above Nugent or Ulloa - doubtful? Norwich fans making me laugh asking how much Gary Hooper is worth if McGoldrick is valued at £8million. Personally, i would pay more for a player who has scored 19 goals in 47 matches for his current club than 6 in 32.

Mcgoldrick is head and shoulders our best player. If he goes it will be a hammer blow but if he wants to go you can't stop him. This late we have no chance of finding a suitable replacement great strikers and goals corners do not grow on tree and a loan signing will not be the answer. It is a sad indication of how our club has fallen when instead of adding players of the calibre of dm we are always losing them to a mediocre Pl side.

If MM needs a striker badly in and 2 days the last thing he needs to do is release a press statement saying I need a striker badly. That will just push the price of any target up immediately!

McCarthy puts the McGoldrick news out there to try and get an auction going.

At the very least we need Vardy on season long loan if McGoldrick goes to Leicester.

...........and don't forget with transfer deadline looming and with plenty of premier league money to burn as well as losing McGoldrick we could just as easily lose Smith & Berra in the next 48 hours.

Out of curiosity, if McGoldrick is worth £8m then what on earth would it cost to sign Jonny Williams? I'd love a good striker plus Williams but I just can't see it being spent on anything but loans.

With this interview - expect McGoldrick to depart, and Williams, Collison and a striker to come in

Taylor looked amazing (as we all know) on the FLS. As good as Didz. and yet he is loaned out
Mick OUT!

Why do most on here think we'd get 8 million? Where's the evidence? Even if we did the reality is the 8m would only include increments based on appearances etc. It wouldn't be upfront. You aren't going to be able to hold on to a player unless that player is settled and if his family are still in the midlands then it's even more certain he'll go. For all the comments though, MM is no mug, and he'll already have a plan, but we won't know about it until it happens. More concerning is the type of football that we play at present and how and if, that will ever improve.

8 million after his injury -> done deal as much as I like him and as much as we need him.

Don't be too concerned about Micks comments guys. He would never say he had a replacement lined up anyway.

Evans not wanting to do the deal relates more to the fact that he knows we would have no chance of going up if he goes rather than money (that is what I read into this anyway).

Feel strongly that this deal is going to happen. Just hope it goes through sooner rather than later or else we will be resigning players like Rory Fallon and Sam Parkin as replacements (both available on a free).

Frustrating to hear Millwall fans rant and rave about how good Carlos Edwards is...

Teddy Bishop should not be dropped against Millwall.

Most worrying thing is MM thinks the team does not need to replace Didsy. Nouble is nowhere near good enough but he seems in the frame yet again. Don't get me wrong, I like big Frank and he seems a loveable guy. But top goal scorer? No way. League 2 quality at best.

No party no Bajner and Sammon don't appear to be top finishers either.

We could have a very very difficult season ahead.....

DM will be sold and the story will be DM wanted to leave and there was nothing Evans could do.
Anything to divert attention to the fact the ME wants to sell all our best players and only reinvest with minimal funding. I won't be surprised if figure we sell DM for is way below 8M either.......

Some people are dreamers!
Firstly we are a million miles from a play off team and secondly no one of quality will want to come here.
I really feel for the people who renewed their season tickets.
Mugged off yet again !!

LordMamu added 09:21 - Aug 31
"CBA"? "Market forces"? We are 19th in the league. Let's see what market
forces do to attendances and our league position if you sell. If you condone McGoldrick "not being arsed" when he has signed a contract presumably it's ok for me to "not be arsed" to pay the direct debit on my season tickets. Yet more of McCarthy's usual spoutings of bullsh*t dressed up as honesty with all the intellectual rigour of a 5 year old. Do something for the club rather than talking up the price, Mick.

Here's my take. Monday night will show whether I'm right or wrong:
1) Of course McG could have played on Sat. Mick has said as much, although in typical Mick fashion, he uses 100 words where 10 will do. (Sorry, Mick, if you ever read this, I'm still a fan, by the way.)
2) McG will go. This "will he, won't he" is simply part of the negotiation regarding price.
3) Not much, but maybe some, of the money will be available for a replacement.
4) As it's too late to buy a replacement, Mick will probably get in a loan player as cover for now. This is not necessarily a disaster.
If all this takes place, we move on. (Can't see McG being a happy bunny if he is denied a huge career move.) We did well second half against Derby. Bishop, Henshall and Bru should keep their places, and Hewitt (was injured) should come in too. Tabb, Anderson, Skuse on the bench. Let's at least give change a try. The future may still be blue! I still feel we are lucky to have an experienced manager at this difficult time; personally, I've no desire to go down the "League 1" route. For every "renewal," there are plenty of examples of "disappeared without trace."

at £8m we would be silly not to take it. the problem is having just one day to find a replacement, id like to see collison signed, williams brought in on loan again plus a permanent striker sorted wishful thinking but this money needs to be reinvested
