Lita Trial Ends But McCarthy Still Looking at Bajner
Wednesday, 23rd Jul 2014 22:16

Town boss Mick McCarthy says striker Leroy Lita’s trial with the Blues is over but says Hungarian frontman Bálint Bajner will be given longer to show what he can do.

Lita, a free agent following his release by Swansea, played 45 minutes and scored in last night’s development squad friendly at Braintree, while Bajner, who was previously with Borussia Dortmund’s B side, came on in the second half at Colchester.

“He’s not still here and he won’t be [staying] here until the end of the week,” McCarthy said when asked about Lita’s situation. “Bálint will be staying around for a few days though.”

Lita was one of six trialists in action at Braintree and McCarthy says it makes sense to have a look at players, such as Bajner, sent to the club by agents on spec.

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained in my book,” he said. “I just have a look at them. You can tell if they’re for you almost straight away, if they’re not or if there’s something you’ve seen that you want to have a look at and keep them on. I think with Bálint he did OK.

“Trialists are trialists. They come in, they’re on trial, they do their best. Some get kept on, some get sent home, some get asked to stay on a little bit longer.”

What does mick mean by "he wont be here until the end of the week" ?? Has he seen enough of him to make his mind up to offer him a deal, or is that it over?? He is decent at this level in my opinion

Thought Bajner was decent, I'm pretty sure his first touch was a back heel haha both Marroit and Nouble looked a handful as well

Clever wording by Mick to keep us guessing. Could be taken one of 2 ways. We will all know soon enough.

Bajner was rubbish he reminded me of Tamas Prisken He looked totally lost. At the end of the game TC stood on the touch line showing him how he should have been using his size to shield and hold the ball up.

I think means Leroy is not for him.

Jimmy86

That was really to do with the question I asked, which was along the lines of 'is he still here, will he be spending the week at the club?'.

Hopefully it means Lita's going elsewhere...would rather see Marriott given his chance.

@carsey......Mick wants to have a further look at Balint which is good news to me because I like the look of him although it appeared that he was playing 'in the hole' or as a 2nd striker when he came on in the 2nd half. He did well in my eyes and nearly got a key assist when Nouble's effort flashed just wide of United's goal. Reminds me a bit like Connor Wickham and Nicola Zigic....hope he turns out to be the former as he looks like he could score a hat full with a number of key contributions in the Championship ;)

Of course there's going to be some indifferent opinions of Balint I imagine...?

I have it on good authority (an ex-teammate at a non-league club) that lita is an absolute nob. At least, he was 10 years ago. Maybe mick saw a bit of that and realised he won't be a good fit. We don't need another chopra
