Revised Starting Line-Up Against Hammers
Wednesday, 16th Jul 2014 19:19

Town have announced a revised first-half side which is a mix of first-teamers and fringe members of the squad for this evening’s home friendly against West Ham United (KO 7.45pm).

Summer signings Cameron Stewart and Alex Henshall are amongst the starters, while first-year pro Ted Bishop makes his first start for the senior side and second-year scholar Matt Clarke will be at the heart of the defence.

Striker Frank Nouble faces his old club, while Aaron Cresswell makes a quick return to Portman Road having joined the Hammers from the Blues earlier in the month. Former Blues loanee Mark Noble also starts for the visitors.

As at Shelbourne on Saturday, where Town won 4-0, McCarthy is set to switch his entire XI at half-time.

Town first half: Gerken, Hewitt, Berra, Clarke, Mings, Stewart, Skuse, Bishop, Henshall, Marriott, Nouble. Subs: Bialkowski, Parr, Chambers, Smith, Wyatt, Anderson, Hyam, Veseli, Tabb, Murphy, Taylor, McQueen, Lawrence, Crowe.

West Ham first half: Jaaskelainen, Demel, Collins, Tomkins, Cresswell, Kouyate, Noble, Diame, Jarvis, Cole, Downing.

Wish I was going tonight but got a wedding to pay for! But at £15 a ticket I probably would of thought about not going anyway! Really hope we win, it will do us wonders for the season ahead.

COYB!

Different teams each half then! Considering we are playing this as only our second warm up game, with both teams far away from full match fitness, I opted not to pay £15 to see it.

That's a strong west ham 11. Could be interesting.

Mark - concur with your comments. However, I personally like MM policy of fielding two teams. But not to enough to pay £15 to watch it plus travel etc on a work day.

agree with the other posters.£15. A bit steep, with travel would cost me over £30,but good luck to the lads tonight.

Yet again people who may have gone to to watch have been priced out of it. A fiver would have been a sensible price. Totally crazy.

Fair whack for a pre season game. Would have made more effort to get out of work had it been cheaper.

At the game and plusses first half were Stewart, Henshall and the biggest of all was marriott, really made things happen and outshone nouble big time. No wordsworth in the squad though which is weird

Jimmy86. I would say nouble has been poor and marriot has been slow apart from two runs with the ball

Yea nouble was poor and this season he shouldnt get game time above more deserving players, like marriott, mcqueen or taylor. People need to get real with regards to nouble. He is not up to it

Nouble had a good half and apart from one instance , when he had too much time to think , workedwell with Marriot . Best player first half was Mings , giving real competition to Parr ! Good to see Bishop and Clarke play well , especially Bishop . Also very pleased to see real pace on both sides ( Mings/Henshall one side Hewitt/Stewart other ) and can see plenty of potential for the season ahead .
Second half less exciting but still good to see potential from different set-up .

Nouble closed down well but he backs into player rather than jump and looked lost when he got the ball. Marriot only came to life when he had the ball bearing down on goal. His shots lacked power. Number 7 (mings?) was good. Taylor looked lost abit, some good play but not in the game enough. May be his positioning or needs a partner who gel well with him. He looked better when wide on the right

meekreech. nouble had a good 1st half???? you've got to be kidding. he was as awful as ever. would love to see him do the business for us but the truth is hes no good whatsoever. jimmy, wordsworth wasn't in the squad due to a slight injury. oh and daz. Marriott was excellent. how can you say he was slow? looked sharp, and if it wasn't for nouble getting in the way would have scored

to those of you complaining about £15 being too much? we, a championship side playing a premier league team(albeit only w, ham), don't see why you think that. tickets for the col utd, Gillingham, leyton orient away friendlies also £15 so think that makes it pretty good value for this match. while they may have got a few more there by charging say £10, its unlikely theyd have got enough to make up the shortfall. and the fact is that they have to cover the costs of putting the game on.

Love how people down mark about Marriot. Mick has said the same since i wrote it. I like Marriot but he needs to do more off the ball. Can he score goals yes but he needs to work on other areas.

Blues1 don't just watch Marriot when he makes great runs into the Box.
