New Signings Set to Face Hammers
Wednesday, 16th Jul 2014 14:06

New signings Alex Henshall (pictured), Cameron Stewart, Jonny Parr and Bartosz Bialkowski are all expected to be involved in this evening’s only home friendly of pre-season against West Ham (KO 7.45pm).

Youngsters Darren McQueen and Ben Wyatt, who joined the club on one-year pro deals following their release by Spurs and Norwich respectively, are also likely to get a run out.

Daryl Murphy and Stephen Hunt missed Saturday’s 4-0 win at Shelbourne due to minor calf problems but could be back this evening, but the game will come too soon for striker David McGoldrick.

The striker, whose 2013/14 was ended by a knee injury, is training, with manager Mick McCarthy saying on Saturday that he was expecting him to start working with the ball at some point this week.

The match gives former Blues left-back Aaron Cresswell an early opportunity to return to his old club, following his recent move to Upton Park.

"I can't wait for Wednesday's game,” the 24-year-old said. “It'll be good to go back and see some familiar faces at a place I spent three years at.

"The way it's worked out, two weeks after leaving there to come here, is a great coincidence.”

The Hammers drew 2-2 at Stevenage at the weekend are set to bring a strong squad including the likes of Andy Carroll and Carlton Cole, as well as recent signings Mauro Zarate, Cheikhou Kouyate and Diego Poyet. Tonight’s referee is regular Football League official Andy Woolmer from Northampton.

Tickets are priced at £15 for adults, £10 for seniors/students/under-20s and £3 for under-16s. Fans can pay on the night.

Just been having a look at West Ham's official site, they describe Cresswell as 'the Scouser'! Eh, Eh, Day do do dat do don't dey?

Cresswell was involved in the first Stevenage goal in last Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham as he headed back to Adrian. But it sounds like it was the keeper who was at fault, one to bear in mind for our strikers if he is in goal for either half.

We've sold Cresswell and signed a 'keeper for a "small fee", three free transfers and a couple of kids; I hope to be proved wrong but it's not looking good.
