Town Introduce Matchday Ambassadors
Friday, 20th Jun 2014 17:28

Town are introducing a team of 'matchday ambassadors' for the 2014/15 season, fulfilling a role similar to the games makers at the 2012 London Olympics. The ambassadors are amongst a number of initiatives Town say they are looking to introduce ahead of the new campaign.

The volunteers’ responsibilities will include meeting and greeting fans at the perimeter of the stadium, increasing the assistance available to supporters requiring directions or advice and increasing the interaction with younger fans in build-up to games.

Town are hoping to replicate the success of other Football League clubs who have previously recruited ambassador teams.

The Blues are looking to recruit enough ambassadors to ensure that there is a strong presence at each home league and cup match. For full details and to apply, visit the club site. The closing date for applications is Monday 7th July.

Matchday ambassadors won't get my family to go and watch Ipswich playing style if it continues the way it did last season. Lets concentrate on the football side of the club and getting the playing side right, that way Ipswich will put themselves back on the map and back on the TV screens and more importantly attract people in to watch a good football game. What is the point in encouraging people into the ground with superb hospitality only for them to say I'm not coming to watch this cr*p again. That is not a negative comment blues1 it is an observation of what is actually going on at my beloved club who I have supported since the 60's.

I don't think it's a bad idea, but you'd hope to think they'd get paid something even if it's minimum wage, or with a ticket to the game.

That doesn't make any sense. People here seem to be under the illusion that all off season focus is to introduce ambassadors? We have more than one person working at the club and could probably handle a bit more over the next few weeks.

I can understand a lot of long term season ticket holders not really seeing how this will affect them. My point would be that the last of their responsibilites listed is that they will increase interaction with younger fans and could be very beneficial. All of your children are the potential next generation of itfc fans, anything that makes a game more enjoyable for children and keeps them coming back is a good thing. If this increased interaction is well planned and successful then we will have new young fans following ipswich. If it turns out that no such increase happens then the club have lost nothing by trying something which has worked elsewhere. So lets all wait till the season starts before criticising this particular club initiative at least!

no problem @bringbackwickham. I can easily leave it out when we get to top six or people stop mentioning "in MM we trust".

BTW we have finished between 8th -15th over the last 9 seasons, so Mid Table accurately describes the club and any of these managers.

triumphblue/ think youre totally missing the point. these ambassadors are not meant for the likes of you and me, whove been going for years(over 40 in my case). but for away fans. occasional fans. 1st time fans, etc/ for instance, there are people who are invited to be in a private box by their companies, whove never attende a game before, and ive been asked by such fans in the past where they need to go, so the ambassadors would be perfect in these instances. yes, the likes of you and I may well get asked by them if we need help. is it such a problem to have to simply say thanks but I don't require your help?

plenty of empty seats, why not give some of them to the ambassadors?

Paul Jewell was trying a playing style that was attractive Nearly went down. Darren Ferguson went down playing attractive football. Fellas, it aint the 60's/70's/80's - we aint good enough to play that football, nor do we have the money. Right now, more functional football, with a better chance of succeeding, will suit us all, surely? Only an idiot wants style over substance, and we have many here

I agree Luka, we ain't good enough to play good football. Sometimes you have to sign a footballer over a grafter to succeed or get better. To date that has not happened with Mick and I am worried his team will continue to be filled with grafters and no excitement. Don't get me wrong I certainly don't want someone who is good on the ball but lazy either. We had that with Jet.

I agree, Cloddy. We just need that one spark in the middle. Right now, we cannot get it. Besides, Mick has built a good nucleus over the last season, and can add more quality to it. I would like to see Paul Anderson used more too, and Paul Green signed. Both do have quality, and particularly with Ando, we saw that nearer the end of last season. I'd use Hyam/Wordsworth in the centre, and buy a pacey left winger - maybe even look at Alex Henshall. Would like to see a new RB, not necessarily at Chambers' expense, as he is a top class Championship Centre-Half. All I am saying it that I would rather see a scrappy win for my team than an exciting 3-3
