Murphy Unused Sub
Saturday, 31st May 2014 21:55

Striker Daryl Murphy was an unused sub as the Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 with England’s World Cup opponents Italy at Fulham's Craven Cottage this evening.

Recent loanee Paul Green came off the bench in the 85th minute, while ex-Blue Damien Delaney was also amongst the unused substitutes.

The Irish squad next travel to the US where they will face Costa Rica in Philadelphia on June 6th and Portugal in New Jersey on June 10th.

Interesting situation with Paul Green at the moment.
Hasn't played brilliantly for us, but obviously good enough to get into the Irish side against Italy.
Know we haven't got a lot of money for wages, but feel he would add to our squad depth.
We definitely need a larger first team squad next season. When we suffered a few injuries, we found life in the Championship difficult.
Hopeful for that 5million pound offer from Southampton for Nouble as a replacement for Lambert...with 1million as an add -on (when he scores his first goal)

Nouble will come good. He's a young lad and he clearly has a good work ethic and is a good lad. Towards the end of the season he came off the bench and made an impact. Regarding green. If MM and TC think he's worth it then I will trust their judgement.

I think Nouble is always going to be a coming off the bench impact player for us at best. Hard work, strength, pace against tiring defenders as a change of approach can be (& has been) a useful ploy when we needed to grab something from a game, while it can also help to take pressure off our own defence by providing a willing outlet. As an option for our starting XI though, I really don't see him being talented enough to justify such a selection at a promotion chasing Championship side & really hope Mick has another (better quality) striker lined up to compete with Murphy for the spot alongside McGoldrick, with Marriott on the bench this coming season.
As for Green,

As for Green, I agree with @pjwellisgod that he would add to the squad & probably sign for acceptable wages, so I'm not against us signing him. He will compete & has shown that he has goals in him - something we miss from Skuse & Hyam. We would certainly need to bring in the creative midfielder type player that we have all been banging on about even before Joniesta came on loam as a priority, but if Green is available on reasonable wages come mid-August, I can see merit in taking him also, especially if Tabb moved on.
A keeper, a right back, a replacement left back for Cresswell, the creative midfielder & a striker should all be focused on first though.

Nouble will come good is a phrase I'm sure both West Ham and Wolves fans were saying.

I think that Nouble typifies the best and worst of Ipswich at the moment. Hard working, strong team ethic as well as disciplined. But missing that certain spark to ignite a team.

I'd like Green back if we can get him on a good deal, he still has the hungerand he had a few occasional games where he did well - Burnley he was teriffic in clearing up play as for Nouble - stop the hating hes an absolute badman. He was also a great impact player for us, particularly at the end of last season. His finishing is...horrendous...but he can create chances and he has pace and power - more of a winger with some aerial presence in my opinion, but the point is he's really not a bad player!

Definitely need a keeper to challenge Gerken as loach looks likely to move on. As for a right back, surely Hewitt must be getting close to the first team. Maybe chambers and Hewitt can compete for that spot. Probably will need a left back as cressy is likely to be off as well. Moxey has been release by palace. Worth a punt imo. Creative mid is a must. Someone of the Williams calibre please mick. Think we're ok up top. Mcgoldrick, Murphy, Nouble and marriott should provide enough up top

Personally, I think green would be a good addition if we didn't have Skuse or Hyam. We do. Need creativity, pace and goals from midfield. Greens career to date doesn't suggest he is the man to do that.

Totally agree with Jas 0999 we do not need another like minded central midfielder who will work hard but create little in the centre of the park , Skuse,Hyam,Tabb can all do this need someone alongside one of them
