Foley: Norwich Board Vetoed Appointment
Saturday, 24th May 2014 09:19

Town academy coach Steve Foley says the Norwich City board vetoed his appointment by new Canaries boss Neil Adams.

As reported on Thursday, the 60-year-old was set to return to Carrow Road as first-team coach on a three-year contract but the board, under fire from fans for installing Adams rather than a higher profile manager, refused to sanction the appointment, according to Foley.

“I’m devastated and embarrassed for myself and Neil,” he told The Sun. “I couldn’t believe this was happening, especially that they would undermine Neil on his first day.”

Yesterday, Ryman League Division One North side Needham Market, where Foley has been working as head coach alongside his Town role, confirmed his departure to Norwich before later withdrawing their statement and issuing another press release stating that he would now be staying at Bloomfields.

Foley previously worked at Carrow Road in a number of roles between 1996 and 2006, during which time he coached Adams, having initially been brought to the club by Mike Walker.

After his Norwich contract as Nigel Worthington's first-team coach was terminated following the 2005/06 campaign, Jim Magilton added the former Colchester United stalwart to his Town staff in a specialist skills coach role.

Foley left the Blues in 2010 during Roy Keane’s time as boss but was brought back to the club by academy director Bryan Klug as a youth development coach in the summer of 2012 working with 12-16-year-olds, while also coaching part-time with Needham Market.

Meanwhile, Adams is reported to want ex-Town boss and one-time Canaries striker Joe Royle as his director of football.

What are the odds on Adams to be the first Championship manager to quit/be sacked?

I would like to see Bryan Gunn go in there as assistant. He worked miracles last time ;) on a serious note though the scum's board is awful. One joke to another, will keep us all entertained for a long time I think. Glad we have got MM and TC, both proven at this level and know what they're doing.

Love the way people are already saying "they are destined for League One".
If, after 10 games, they haven't picked up a point THEN we can start to say that.
They have a very good squad and alongside Fulham, Derby, Wigan and Brighton will be favourites to bounce right back up.
It would take a total disaster for them to go down. The players they have will not be in the bottom 3 at the end of the season.
A disastrous season for them next season would be 7th or 8th (I.e. Missing out on play-offs).
Given their squad right now, they should be contenders for champions next season.
Just hope we can spoil their party

If they treated Mick like that, and not allowed him to bring TC with him,I know what his reaction would have been.
Hope Joe doesn't go there as he did wonders for us on a budget less than Micks if that possible.

Hopefully Joe Royle will tell the Norwich board that there is more chance of him accepting Director of Football at Needham Market, might put a bit of a strain on the Needham finances...

Nobitch have restated they will not appoint a director of football. The job is technical director to oversee players health and welfare nothing to do with buying or selling etc.
