Anderson: Next Four Games Massive
Wednesday, 19th Mar 2014 20:12

Midfielder Paul Anderson believes the next four games will dictate whether the Blues will be in the running for a play-off place come May.

Town travel to eighth-placed Brighton on Saturday before Derby and Nottingham Forest - who are both currently in the play-off zone and who meet in an East Midlands derby at the weekend - visit Portman Road, then April starts with a trip to Blackburn, who are 10th just behind the Blues in ninth.

“We have got some massive games coming up, starting with Brighton,” Anderson told the club site.

“Leicester and Burnley look like they have gone but the other places are up for grabs and we are still in there.

“Our next four games are against teams in the play-offs or around them and you’d think they are likely to dictate whether we are in with a chance of finishing in the top six or not.

“Hopefully we will be right in there but whatever happens, it’s still a massive progression for the club from the last four or five years.”

Brighton are expecting a 30,000 crowd at the Amex Stadium on Saturday with almost 1,800 fans following the Blues.

Meanwhile, Town’s U18s are in action away against Bristol City on Thursday afternoon (KO 1pm). The Robins play their academy games at SGS College in New Road, Stoke Gifford.

As Steve from Sweden says, we must remain positive while there is a decent mathematical chance of us making the top six, but our form simply has to pick up for this to happen.

We have been chuntering along winning two in six games, whereas our play-off rivals, especially Wigan and Brighton, have got their skates on. In the context of the last few years, there is a great deal to be positive about, but we are still a work-in-progress.

What happens by the 5th game then?

Do we all pack up and go on our holidays?

*Paul Anderson & all your team mates..when you play football (especially for our club),EVERY game should be massive..otherwise go and do something else for a living.

Just accept our season is over, not going up not going down.
Far better than last season
If we can bring Marriot back, play Mings for the rest of the season, we know what Cresswell can do, even play Cresswell left hand side of midfield.
Blood youngsters see how they get on, but most of all get behind the team every week, know matter what the starting 11 is

The players can keep saying it but I think you would find it pretty difficult to find any supporters who actually believe we have a chance of the play-offs. This is why we are currently getting 16k through the turnstiles and Brighton (one place above) are expecting 30k on Saturday.
We are not good enough this season to finish top 6 and MM will need to bring in 6 decent quality players over the summer to make the push next season.

To be fair to Anderson what else can he say? "we've actually given up on the play offs and are looking to rebuild for next season".....season ticket renewals are due in the next few weeks and the club need to give the fans something to hold onto aside from the threat of relegation as in the previous seasons.

I think we have to look at the maths here. Doing a little bit of research and 75 points has guaranteed a play off place for the last 10 years. Sometimes its 72, even 70, but the competition for places is likely to mean it will go to there or there abouts 75. I think some of you have found that through the predictor. Currently we have 51 points. With 10 games left to go, we would need 24 points from a possible 30. That's 8 wins, or 7 and 3 draws. Anything less won't be good enough. Any team who can pull off a feat like that deserves to be in the playoffs, but i think we would struggle to find a team capable, let alone our current squad and situation, its too much of an ask. Then again, the players have to believe, or their season is over...

Never thought we'd make the playoffs to begin with. There were some faint glimmer of hope along the way but it didn't bare thinking about. Imagine this team in the premiership?!?! While I do want to see our shameful record of the heaviest defeat of all time in the Premiership be broken I don't want to see it done by us! As for Sir Alf and his 'the best Manager in ten years.' I agree MM did a good job steadying the ship but the jury is still well and truely out on McCarthy and least you forget this is his team! I will wait until next season before I pass judgement.

If only the players would concentrate on football rather than on this comedy beard growing competition we might actually get somewhere...

It's our defence that gives me the jitters!

However, we should remember that most of the players are rejects from other clubs! Players they did not want to keep, coming here on 'a free'. Considering that, MM has done a very good job with what he has had to work with.

What we need is a sound RB. Maybe Hewitt will be the man? Could Mings become a solid LB and release Cresswell to the left midfield? He presents real danger when he's coming forward.

We definitely need a classier player in midfield who can create some opportunities. A pity Wordsworth has not developed into that. Up front a fully-fit McGoldrick and a fully fit SEB (plus Murphy) would then have a lot more to feed off.

Small differences like this could put us in contention next season.
