Boro's Richardson Linked
Friday, 24th Jan 2014 14:43

Town are reportedly close to signing Middlesbrough right-back Frazer Richardson on loan. The 31-year-old had been close to joining Blackpool on a similar basis until Paul Ince’s sacking by the Tangerines.

Rotherham-born Richardson started his career with Leeds where he made 145 starts and 28 sub appearances in nine years, scoring five times.

Having spent two spells on loan at Stoke early in his time at Elland Road, 5ft 11in tall Richardson moved on to Charlton in the summer of 2009.

After a year at the Valley he joined Southampton before signing for Boro at the start of this season. He has made only 11 appearances since his switch, the most recent in November.

rather bring hewitt back why loan out an up and coming player of are own just to borrow an old player.il support him if he signs of course but think this is the wrong direction for the club

Valid if we are trying to loan in a young kid from another club, but evidently we are looking at experienced players.

Theobald whilst I agree with the concept of your argument in my opinion Hewitt is not ready for Championship football. He struggled when he did play for us (Villa apart) and we have to trust Mick with his judgement. Hopefully we will see what Hewitt is made of tonight and good luck to the lad.

I agree, Hewitt looked ideal to me.
My priority would be a creative CM

Never heard of him, ive said it before but why isnt Hewitt being recalled? He made one mistake, apart from that he was great. Why are wasting money on wages we dont need to?

If this is the case I am sure MM knows what he's doing. We have not had a good enough RB since we lost Stearman and we have conceded too many silly goals.

Hewitt is for next season - a great prospect, but does not have the authority yet for the Championship.

sounds good, perhaps MM will then have Smith and Chambers as the centre backs, but I would still prefer Hewitt there,I just don't see the point. What we need is a good creative midfielder.Nevertheless whatever Mick does is fine by me.Roll on tomorrow.COYB

People who don't understand how the loan system works shouldn't be allowed to comment. A young player gets regular first team experience elsewhere while we supplement our ranks with an experienced player ....... simples

I really do think Hewitt is the long term answer to our RB problem, but right now he just isn't ready imo. When he played there at the beginning of the season he wasn't getting forward at all, i suspect because he was afraid of getting caught out on the counter, and looked really nervous. Right now, if he was put in and had a couple of bad games it would really ruin his confidence, so I'd rather he is out on loan at a league 1 club getting some more experience and we can plug the gap with a temporary loan.

what's the point of the squad if half of them are not good enough?

loans are a waste of time. if they're any good after the loan they go elsewhere if not we've got another 30+ has been.

I don't see how that will solve our problem of scoring goals just shore up the back line perhaps so we can get some nil nil results what's the betting there will be no further additions in midfield where we desperately need someone instrumental as we have all been crying out for .

battyblue we don't have a problem scoring goals, high up the list this year, but we do have a problem conceding them - mostly coming from the right.

StowTractorBoy i would respectfully disagree with hewitt not being good enough i think her did ok at the start of the season certainly no worse than anybody else and feel he just needs a run in the side to get better.there is no future in the loan we are getting he is a thirty something who has never really pulled up any trees so I would play hewitt as he has time to get better and improve.
people are saying we need to support micks judgment and to a point i do.i think mick knows how to get the football he wants out of a team nick a goal and defend it hump balls forward etc but as ive said before fans will only accept that if you win all the time and now were on are bad run people are thinking hang on this is dire to watch and its not even working.
i love my football and am a town fan for life so will support regardless but there is no future in playing football this way and the policy of loaning out promising youngsters and loaning in old has beens is not the way forward for this club in the long run

Butchered.
Seem to have a high opinion of yourself implying that those who dont agree with you
should not post.
It would be ok to loan players out if they were getting games;but I feel that Marriott
should come back when the 28 days are up as Taylor hasn't played him for the Gills yet,and our squad needs an injection of youth.

Seasider.spot on.Get the lad back ASAP.He will get better experience here than at the Gills.Play him now.

The problem with Hewitt is that he's too much like Cresswell and with both attacking down the wings it leaves the defence vulnerable. The solution is to play either of them and it's clear which one is the stronger player at the moment. Meanwhile Hewitt hasn't really progressed in the U21 team and it was clear Mick wanted him to get some competitive game time to find his sharpness again. Should we sell Cresswell then Mings is the obvious choice for the LB position and I can see Hewitt being given another chance on the right, should he prove that he has found that little bit of extra sharpness while out on loan.

For now a RB who has experience and can protect the defence (especially stopping crosses, which has been a problem) is what Mick thinks we need and personally I agree with him.
