Tunnicliffe Set to Stay
Thursday, 26th Dec 2013 17:41

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he expects on-loan Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe to stay with the Blues for the rest of the season.

McCarthy says he has talked to Red Devils boss David Moyes about the 20-year-old and unless anything unforeseen happens, he will extend his stay at Portman Road beyond the end of his current spell, which is up on New Year's Eve.

“David and myself have spoken and unless they desperately need him then we’ll make that happen and he’ll stay with us," he said. "I’m hoping that will be the case.”

Tunnicliffe was one of Town's top performers during today's 3-0 win at Doncaster but McCarthy says there's even more to come from him: “He’s got more to give.

"I’m pleased with him. I’d like to be saying I’m delighted with him but I’m not. He’s got to get that lofty status yet, it’s not happened.

“I’m really pleased with him, he’s fitted in with us great and I really want him to stay and, like I say, I’ve spoken to David Moyes and that’ll happen, barring accidents.”

Tunnicliffe could miss the New Year's Day game at home to Charlton as the paperwork on the new deal might not go through in time.

Commented the other day that his form had dipped, but sounds like he rediscovered it today. With SEB available soon, it's essential we keep this team together. Another wide player would be good, but otherwise we are looking good in all areas!

Excellent. It sounded like he played really well today.

I think he's far short of what Man Utd require of their players, but he's a good player for us and he could develop well here, so perhaps a permanent transfer to Ipswich in the summer would suit all parties?

Took a look at the goalscorers in our league. David Mc is joint 4th and guess who at #2. Its been a long time since we had a potential 20+ per year man.

Pos Player Club Goals Games Ratio
1 Ross McCormack 16 22 0.73
2 Jordan Rhodes 13 22 0.59
3 Danny Ings 12 21 0.57
4 Troy Deeney 11 20 0.55
5 David Nugent 11 21 0.52
6 Craig Bryson 11 22 0.50
7 David McGoldrick 11 22 0.50

Tunnicliffe really looks the spitting image of agent knox in boardwalk empire, well in this picture he does

Not sure of you're right Florida! Hyam is a different type of player and may develop into a very good holding midifelder or more IMHO. Let's hope they both do well for Town
