Town Hoping for Highest Attendance
Thursday, 21st Nov 2013 12:23

Town are hoping the Kids for a Quid promotion being run ahead of Saturday’s home game against Leicester City will lead to Portman Road's highest attendance of the season so far.

The recent 1-1 draw with Barnsley was watched by a crowd of 18,361 but the Blues expect to surpass that with the Foxes, who currently sit second in the table, bringing more than 1,000 fans.

All under-16s can attend Saturday’s game for £1 with full details on the club site.

Leicester will be without suspended winger Anthony Knockaert, while defender Sean St Ledger, a one-time Town target, is out with a groin injury.

Young striker Tom Hopper will miss out with a stress fracture, while Foxes full-back Ritchie De Laet is back in light training but is unlikely to feature against the Blues.

Meanwhile, Town say they have sold 2,035 tickets for next week's game at Charlton with 285 remaining and the Addicks confirming that more will be made available if required. To buy a seat, visit ITFC Direct.

Reduced prices, bigger attendance?

Who'd have thought!

attendances are at lowest since before George Burley took over...... So it won't take a lot

But away attendance at Charlton is looking very good, so after all the negative comments comparing us to Leeds (at the same fixture) we are looking like we will be there in large numbers at the valley. That place makes Portman road seem noisy, they are very quiet….

And they finally cotton on! Surely it's better to fill empty seats for a pound than leave them empty!?!?! More fans = better atmosphere = win for the Town* = kids ask to come again = become Town fans of the future! A step in the right direction!? COYB!

* Hopefully

Bless - what the club (although Ipswich are the only club that suffers from this) fails to consistently understand is that if the Club want 'consistently' high attendance then simply lowering prices won't deliver it.

You see, there has to be a perceived value attached to an item or service. So, for example, under Keane and to a lesser extent Jewell the 'quality' of football on offer was poor, therefore supporters decide to spend money elsewhere - a lot of other things vie for our money. The Club is still recovering from this and the fundamental basics are, whilst there are a core set of supporters for any club, it needs to deliver on the pitch, playing good football (that many of us have been lucky enough to watch over a number of decades) an being competitive.

There have been times under the current and previous managers where, even if the Club paid, me I wouldn't have wanted to watch the dire stuff being dolled out in the name of football at PR.

Sure, special events and ticket days are helpful but let it not take away from the bigger picture.

I'm one of a core then and can still see Ray Crawford heading that goal.

As a season ticket holder, who pays and commits to every home game, i afraid I am still against these ticket promotions. People argue that season ticket holders get reduced rate seats, but it would be far cheaper for me to wait and attend games with ticket promotions only. Feel if the club offer tickets on the cheap to non season ticket holders, they should think of an incentive for season ticket holders as well ... As I commit and pay for games despite having to miss a couple a season. A goo incentive would be a couple of cup tickets thrown in as part of the price, say first round of both cups.

jas0999 As an incentive to season tickets holders why not gift us a free pint - tea - coffee on showing the season ticket on the gate you get a voucher to redeem at one of the bars whilst these ticket incentives are on!

@ jas....

If you seriously believe it is cheaper to not have a season ticket, take advantage of the odd price promotion and pay full matchday prices the rest of the time then you are in for a shock.

A season ticket is still the cheapest, hassle-free option and comes with a few perks. But you need to acknowledge that not all fans can justify a season ticket when other commitments such as work get in the way of attending games. For many it's a case of buying match-day tickets as and when, and that's where things get expensive.

I don't understand why some season ticket holders are against these promotions. Anything that can be done to attract fans back to Portman Road should be embraced, unless you prefer sitting in a half-empty stadium with no atmosphere. Personally I would prefer match-day tickets to be cheaper across the board rather than these token gestures from the club every now and then.

As a non season ticket holder (for the first time in fifteen years) I do have sympathy for those who buy STs and then see various promotions. In recent seasons you needed to attend around 19 or 20 games to get financial value from an adult season ticket. That is before the club offers cheap tickets for a few games each season. Then it is more a labour of love and a desire to retain your reserved seat than a financial commitment.

Having attended only a handful of games in each of the last three seasons (my son plays on Saturday mornings and it is a four hour round trip to PR), I sadly relinquished my ST this season. It made sense financially but was still a wrench.

We are attending our first home game for a year this weekend. I am bringing my Dad and my son, the latter is costing me a pound. Great for the (now) casual fan but less so for those who sign up for the season each summer.

All very well season ticket holders moaning about promotions. But this one is about Under 16's so how does this affect most season ticket holders?

The promotion on Saturday has no affect at all on season ticket holders over 16 except that the empty seat next to them may have someone in it for a change!!!

As an example, my 2 grandchildren are going at £1 each and their mother has paid £32.50 for her ticket. The club has made again on this one and many more I suspect. If season ticket holders don't like it stop paying for a season ticket and take yoru chance on promotions.

PS I am a season ticket holder

homer 123 at last someone who gets it.
The discussion has always revolved around if we play better we get better gates or if we reduce prices we get better gates.
It`s not one or the other it`s a combination of the two.

Unfortunately the scum understood this and applied it brilliantly

Smeghead never got it and I don`t think the current set up have a clue either.

alfromcol/ I don't think youll find any season ticket holders moaning about this kind of promotion. the promotion you wil find them moaning about (for ur benefit too taricco fan), are the four tickets for a tenner promos. and why? simple, because these promotions are advertised as a "season ticket holders incentive". im sorry, but what incentive is it for a season ticket holder to get four of his mates(who maybe haven't attended a single match prior to that one)., a ticket for £10 each when they are having to pay more for their seat. there needs to be something given to the season ticket holder in return for getting these extra ticket sales, even if it just a free pie or a drink or something. why should we miss out just because weve paid in advance for our seats. either that or stop calling it a season ticket holders incentive

alfromcol added 10:20 - Nov 22
blues1 you said it 4 tickets for your 'mates' if they are real mates I am sure you wouldn't begrudge them a cheap ticket. I think it's for your mates to buy you a pint and a pie!!!!

bohslegend added 11:59 - Nov 22
Homer, all clubs at some stage go through good times and bad (at various levels). Supporters need to be Supporters. The club has been there and will be there much longer than any of the current owners will be. What will you do? Come back for the good times only? Does that make you a supporter of ITFC or does that make you fickle, a bandwagon jumper?

blues1 added 12:52 - Nov 22
alfromcol/ the point of the promo is that your mates can buy the tickets for £10, not you buy them for them, so why would they need to buy you a pint and a pie. the point I was making is that the club advertise these promos as a season ticket incentive and should therefore give some incentive to the season ticket holder, not just to his/her mates.
0

bohslegend added 14:20 - Nov 22
blues1, you're missing the point. your mates will get significantly reduced ticket prices, and with some of the difference they can say thanks to you as a ST holder by buying a pint. Simples. If not, find other mates, the ones you have are scabby fooks.

blues1 added 14:54 - Nov 22
No bohslegend, im not missing the point at all. Im sure my mates would happily buy me a drink. But the point is; and i say it yet again, that the club are promote this as a season ticket holders incentive. But it is no incentiveto season ticket holders who are paying more, much more in some cases, depending on where they sit.

What would attract fans back to PR is if we played attractive football instead of the absolute dross being served up now. See MM has reverted to 442 for Leicester, keep favourites in the team at the expense of anyone with any flair. By the way JET is the leagues joint leading scorer with 14 some of his goals he would have scored at any level. (See MM's comments on Marriot scoring for Woking)
