Taylor Hits Post as Posh Win Again
Taylor Hits Post as Posh Win Again
Saturday, 19th Oct 2013 20:41

On-loan striker Paul Taylor got another 62 minutes under his belt as Peterborough United beat Shrewsbury 1-0 at London Road.

The Blues frontman, who is back with his former club until November 2nd, came close to his first goal of the season early on when he struck the post.

His replacement just after the hour mark, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing netted the game’s winner soon after taking over.

Taylor has now made five starts during his loan spell, although only completed the full 90 minutes in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Brentford.

Peterborough, who have won six on the trot in League One and sit second, are next in action on Tuesday when they face Sheffield United, again at London Road.

Lee Tomlin, who Taylor was brought in to replace while he was out with ankle ligament damage, could be back in the squad for that game.

Meanwhile, left-back David October made his debut for his loan club Histon as the Skrill Conference North side drew 1-1 away at Guiseley.

Hmm only one 90 mins ... I wonder if he is getting a game because the loan agreement was he gets at least x minutes. I'm not sure he is the answer many think he is.

When Taylor comes back he will be an unused sub, he can play a bit & has flair so no chance under McCarthy

Reports from todays game say he was awful. Doesn't help as he is being asked to play in a position he has never played before and doesn't suit him.

Looks like someone has PMT. Are you not allowed to report negative performances. Let me correct my previous comment. Taylor was god like in has performance today. Happy ?.

he's still regaining fitness from a very serious and career threatening inury . He is playing several games a week, so Im not too fussed that he's not playing the full 90 mins yet. He can do that with us when he returns, assuming MM is still here to play him !!

Can't wait for him to return. He's a creative spark we're really lacking behind the strikers. I'd like to see a diamond midfield and see Skuse hold with Taylor in behind.

..... i'll bet McGoldrick is longing for the day he returns to PR - I wonder why ?

Michael, Taylor is not suited to playing at the tip of the diamond.

Sorry, but I still find the positive posts on Taylor remarkable. We paid a reported £1.75M for him and what has he done to justify it exactly? For people to say the sooner he is back the better is really unfounded. No goals and just one 90 minutes for Posh. Is that really reason for him to walk straight into the team?

Jas - he must be better than the likes of Nouble we have sitting on the bench doing nothing when he comes on.

All we really know about him is that he's just another option. However, I'm hoping he's an option who can provide the energy and creativity up front that we need. Only time will tell if he was worth 1.75million.

We have got to get the best out of him when he comes back, fitter than when he left us ? because having paid out £1.5 million with another £1million pending ??? although his injury was most unfortunate, He still owes us now ?? so I hope Mick will play him when he gets back, to get a bit of flair back in the midfield ????
I can begin to understand why Marcus Evans has closed his cheque book for the time being ?? with previous managers at fault ??

Trust me I hope he proves to be a total star, the little he played beide injury he did look like he has something. BUT he has had a bad injury, posh in a division below have only given him one 90 mins so I think it's dangerous to think he is the answer we are looking for. Super sub maybe in the shorter term, personally though think his loan will extend till Christmas if that's possible and maybe return jan. He should be standing out a league below and clearly isn't but maybe he just needs time

The one thing you can say about taylor is he at least tries to make things happen, as his mate tunnicliffe said he tends to shoot a lot if he gets even a sight of goal, which is good. Always try and work the keeper!!! Plus he tries to run at people and has a bit of pace!!! Give the guy a break. He certainly offers more than nouble!!!

as the saying goes you don't shoot you don't score,if taylor shoots and dosent score some one else may benefit from it and score , take today we never looked like really scoring seemed to want to get to close,, there are matches like yesterday when a team like burnley hunt in packs to close us down a few snap shots would have altered there mind set poor didsy can not do it all alone all season, granted cole was a little unlucky today but that was it all afternoon, burnley worked hard from there front to back but weren't unbeatable and not any better than us to be honest.

It does not bode well when the sub comes on and scores the winner.

I would like to know the terms of this load agreement, e.g. are we paying his wages so long as he has a guaranteed run out on the pitch?

I would be less worried about his failure to last the full 90 minutes if I knew he was in the Posh first team on merit and not just because we told them to do it.

Lets be realistic here for a moment.... at the moment Murphy is unreliable, hit or miss wether he will have a good game, ( never really rated him ever) Dids cannot be expected to score all the goals, he has done well but could do better given the correct support.
Now we have our Mr Taylor, he,s listed as a striker, been out for a year with a career threatening injury, we paid 1.75 million for him with add ons! So someone must have seen something in him?
At the moment we are desperate for that game changing striker, wether from the bench or whatever, so he has,nt scored, reports say he was awful.
Take any other proffesional sportsman, do the same to them and they will struggle for form, he will come good but it will take time, sadly thats the one thing we lack we need better results and fast, or its another wasted season!
Slightly off topic.... attendance at PR, are the MD,s so blind to the fact that hometeams play better to full stadiums, this current pricing structure is madness, the most expensive in the division, are they so out of touch of reality, on what cost a family of four will be?
When i lived in town and could attend games, 21/22k was the norm, thats one whole lot of bums on seats, all spending! Muppets the pair of them!!!

i agree that ME is probably thinking about the 1.5m he allowed PJ to spend a year ago, and he's seen exactly what in return? Doubt ME is that sympathetic in regards to bad injuries. I think MM has made a rod for his own back here though. He's done well without spending money, so i imagine ME is happy with that and will expect him to continue without spending too much money. ROI compensation, that will probably offset the 1m bonus ME paid MM to keep us up

He's never been a goalscorer though. I honestly cannot understand how people on here think he is the answer, someone earlier asking for 15 goals from him. It's just not gonna happen
