Anderson Back for Wigan Trip
Friday, 20th Sep 2013 14:46

Midfielder Paul Anderson will be back in the Town squad for Sunday’s game at Wigan having recovered from the minor groin injury which saw him miss Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Yeovil.

Boss Mick McCarthy said: “He’s fine, he trained and he’s come through the training session today without any problems. He’ll be fit to play.”

Tyrone Mings will miss the trip to face the Latics but the Blues boss says he’s making progress having been out with the knee injury he suffered on the opening day at Reading.

“He’s been out for six weeks and he’s had a week’s training, so [he’ll not be involved at Wigan]. He’ll play in [the U21s] game next week. He needs to train a bit more.

“But he looks great, he’s in great shape, his knee’s no problem, I’m delighted to have him back.”

Wigan manager Owen Coyle made seven changes for the Latics’ first ever European game last night, a 0-0 away Europa League draw with Belgian side Zulte Waregem.

Jean Beausejour, Roger Espinoza, Marc Antoine-Fortune, Leon Barnett, Ben Watson, Thomas Rogne and Shaun Maloney could all return.

Former Norwich skipper Grant Holt has a knee injury and misses out, along with keeper Ali Al Habsi (shoulder) and defenders Gary Caldwell (hip) and Ivan Ramis (knee).

Bit gutted Holt isn't playing, he's been awful.

The only thing I irrationally hate more than sharks is Grant Holt. Especially during movember, which is probably what gives him the edge over the aforementioned beasties.

Watched the highlights of Leicester v Wigan last week. Leicester beat them for pace running at their defence. Don't think we have the pace up front to do that and unlikely to away from home. We can win, but it will be a tight game

Pity some of their top players were rested yesterday, but still think it's not a bad time to play them after Europe. Let's have a go at them.

Shame Gary Caldwell is out. He's usually good for at least one or two major mistakes per game which could've led to a Town goal. Maloney (or Beausejour on his day) running at our defence could cause us problems. Keep them quiet and we could dominate the game as neither are great at deafening. Get Tunnecliff and Skuse on the ball a lot and I'd fancy a 2-0 Town win in an atmosphere-less stadium on a Sunday afternoon.

Dont rate Anderson and Carlos looks tired after his summer exertions.
If they are slow at the back id give Taylor a run on the right wing, what have we got to lose?

Not over excited that Anderson might be starting, so far he hasn't exactly set the pitch a light. Personally hoped for a good replacement for Martin but we haven't had it (although I will give him time) and maybe time in the next transfer window for ME to dip his hand in his wallet.

Good news. Hopefully, he'll start because for me, Carlos Edwards doesn't deserve to be in our starting line up. I know he's 34 now but we should have players in the team by merit, not because of how good they used to be. So glad Grant Holt isn't playing, couldn't bare a goal against us from that fat sod.

Well what other wingers/wide midfielders are we going to have in the team on merit? we haven't got a lot of choice.

TimmyH-we got rid of the one player who might just give us something unexpected, exchanged for Anderson who it seems is being asked to play a wing back's roll & no he hasn't set the place on fire. Do hope we can get our game together and beat Wigan who under Coyle will stop being the entertaining team Martinez built. There is also the matter of the fat f---er who was just a bit of a cheat with the Budgies

Rather Anderson right mid than Jet as he works more in the way MM wants . It is a new style for him and he needs to adjust to his new role . He will become a worthwhile part of the team and will provide assists and possibly a few goals .

I like Grant Holt. Wish he had played for us !

When he singlehandedly beat us a couple of years ago, he gave a masterclass in cheating, but it did the trick, and after my anger subsided I couldn't help but admire him!

Would like Taylor to be given a chance, Edwards has now had his day...never Captain material IMO. I would like PJ and MM to tell why he was ever given the Captains armband?
