No Bristol City Move for Carson
Thursday, 15th Aug 2013 15:16

Midfielder Josh Carson will be back at Portman Road tomorrow after Bristol City decided not to pursue their interest in the 20-year-old, who has been on trial at Ashton Gate for more than a fortnight.

Carson played for Northern Ireland’s U21s as they lost 4-1 to Denmark yesterday and manager Mick McCarthy says he’ll now be returning to the Blues: “He played yesterday for Northern Ireland and he’ll be back here tomorrow. He’s not staying at Bristol City.”

The Town boss dismissed rumours that the Blues have received interest in Aaron Cresswell, with claims that Fulham had made an offer for the left-back circulating earlier in the week.

Asked whether he’d received any enquiries regarding the ex-Tranmere man, McCarthy said: “No, I haven’t. The headline can be ‘McCarthy Denies Any Interest in Aaron’.”

Meanwhile, we understand former Blue Titus Bramble is still training with the Town squad.

The 31-year-old was on trial with his hometown club earlier in the summer but McCarthy ruled out the former Sunderland, Wigan and Newcastle man re-signing at Portman Road after Christophe Berra joined the Blues.

Ex-striker Alan Lee, who is now coaching with the Town academy, has also continued to train with the first-team squad at Playford Road.

Elsewhere, former Blues keeper Neil Alexander has signed for Premier League new boys Crystal Palace after leaving Rangers in the summer, while ex-loanee Ricardo Fuller has joined Michael Chopra at Blackpool.

Maybe Lowestoft or Chelmsford can give Carson a game or two. If he cannot make it at Bristol City then he wont make it anywhere. Too big for his boots.

Come on MM ship him out for the season!

Sorry but he's not good enough for this level of football. Best of luck where ever you may end up playing josh.

I'd love to see him rekindling some of his early potential and be a real star for us by the end of this season, however I think he will be out of the club by then and destined to ply his trade in the lower leagues for the foreseeable future

You didn't go with Mick's suggested headline, Phil. Shame on you for defying the big man.

Josh really needs to ask himself where has it all gone wrong, a few seasons ago he looked a real prospect, when I saw him last season he looked overweight and had lost his pace.
He needs to get really fit then perhaps MM will give him another chance if not he is only going one way. Such a waste of talent.

I hope this will give him a real wake up call...if he can't get an offer from a league one side then he can no longer have any false ideas about how good he is. He has pace, and that is a really special thing in a player, if he takes this the right way, gets his head down, works hard and gets his fitness and form back I can still see him being a great player for us. If not then I'm afraid non-league football beckons...

This is a huge life lesson for Carson. He was the toast of the town for a couple of months and his head couldn't handle a summer away from football. Went home and probably went on the piss, trained when he felt like it because he thought he "made it" already. Obviously has the physical talents to be playing every week but if you cannot deal with things from the neck up you will not make it in this game. Can he still make it in the game, maybe, will he make it with us, highly unlikely.

very interesting everyone - possibilities abound, but it must be nice to be so enlightened that you can peg carson without actually knowing him, his fitness, his diet, exercise, commitment or maturity. splendid insights. keep them humming.

Jackie - a bit harsh but I see where you're coming from. we've all seen the potential in Carson and I think everyone's feelings on the subject can be summed up in one word - disappointed. Loving your avatar btw

I second LondonBen. I have faith in Josh Carson.

A bit discouraging that noted developers and recognisers of young talent like MM and TC tried to offload him, but I hope they'll make the effort and persist.

He could easily turn out to be worth the effort.

Unbelievable the comments from a load of clueless half wits on here the lads only 20 he's proved he's got ability he's just lost he's way a bit I think the coaching staff need to get hold of him and get the talent we all no he's got out of him.

Josh needs to go on loan for the season to a lower league club. He could come up here to Grimsby the cold easterly wind on a Tuesday night at Blundell Park would show us what he's made of.

up_the _town4 I agree with you what a nasty minded bunch on here he is a young lad who let it all go to his head and has a few lifestyle issues. He is only 20 and should be given one last chance

So very many people forget what it was like to be young.

So very few people have been on the edge of a professional football career or had first hand knowledge inside this ruthless profession which chews up and spits out so very many youngsters.

Good luck Josh. Get your focus back and work hard and this life can still be yours.
