Carson Set for Trial as Lee Joins in Training
Saturday, 27th Jul 2013 17:52

Boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that midfielder Josh Carson is set for a trial at an unnamed club this week. The Blues manager also confirmed that former striker Alan Lee has trained with his first team and that he is assessing the 34-year-old, who was released by Huddersfield at the end of last season and has been coaching with the Town academy.

Carson was absent from the 22 at Notts County and McCarthy explained why: “He’s going somewhere else to have a trial next week. I’m sure you’ll all be sniffing about to find out where but I’m not going to tell you, so if you do, good luck to you.”

Ex-striker Lee has started working with the academy this summer, but more recently, as TWTD revealed yesterday, has been training with the first team squad.

“Big Al was in,” McCarthy confirmed. “I just said to him, he’s great with the kids, he comes in and joins in with training and he’s living down here, so why would I not use him?

“He’s doing his coaching badges, I’ve told him he can come and take them. We’ll just see, see if he’s fit, I’ll have a look.”

Whether the Irishman will be registered for the season ahead, the Blues boss said no decision has so far been made: “That’s not been planned [up to ] now. He’s doing his coaching badges, he’s loving it training. Let’s see.”

Not a bad idea, I can't see him getting much first team football here so would probably be best for him

Shame bout carson as he has the ability to perform at this level but maybe has an attitude problem. When he burst onto the scene he had the world at his feet. Unfulfilled potential me thinks

I'm not surprised. I thought Carson was going to be a good player, but by all accounts he got a little carried away and a bit big headed. A move will do him good.

Carson showed so much potential when he first came into the team, it's a shame to see how he's ended up. With regards to Alan Lee, i'd like to retract my angry message about him last night. If he's going to be a coach here anyway and he can still play a bit then it makes sense to register him in case there's an injury crisis.

I'm being totally thick here, but if Carson is on trial somewhere, does that mean he's looking for a permanent move somewhere or just a loan move?

Jimmys law I guess it could be either as we had the spurs defender on trial ahead of a proposed loan, until we signed Berra

I hope it is just for a loan. I wonder whether Carson fell under the influence of some of our recent less professional types who are now gone. MM is highly respected for his player handling and I'd like to think he could turn players like this around rather than just get rid. A shame if Carson is going.

I felt Josh Carson had a lot more potential than Connor Wickham when he first came on the scene , but he seems to have lost his way . Perhaps if loaned out he may see what a good future he could have here if he knuckled down again . But maybe MM has found something in him , which we do not see , and feels it best if he moves on . It is a great pity if that is the case as I feel sad that our youngsters sometimes do not crack on or make the best of their chances with us .

Carson will be one for the future whatever happens.

if Carson was influenced by the numpties, then maybe he hasnt got what it takes.. You have to be blinkered, and focused on improving yourself, even when you think you are at the top of your game

Carson, Peters and so many other with loads of potential have taken the wrong path and simply not developed. There's still time for Carson and being from NI I especially hope he realises his potential!

Some people on here seem to be knocking big Alan, something I wont do! He always gave his best for Ipswich and at the end of the day, work is work, even if it is up the A140. If you need to work and a rival company wants to hire you because your existing or previous employer no longer needs you, do you say no as its a competitor?, no you don't! Remember, Alan loves playing the game at ANY level and with ANY team, so how about we drop it now, old news and all that! Having him here coaching the youngsters and being a possible first team player again is a fantastic move by Mick. Lets stay behind our team for what is likely to be a great season!

I can only echo what has already been said, shame about Carson but then I trust Mick & Lee seems like a sensible choice if he can still provide some cover, as already said he's at the club anyway so why not. The whole Norwich thing is a moot point, it's just a bit SAD that some ITFC fans have this attitude. In business when your firm takes on someone from your competitors; it's considered a result yet in football it's the opposite, all rather silly IMO

Why has mick the mouth not given Carson a try ?? Remember this is a manager that got wolves relegated and look where they are now !! So don't get carried away about promotion

I saw Josh in Revs in town last season, hanging out with a certain M. Chopra, knocking back the shots and generally behaving like a big-shot. This was after the draw away at Peterborough, when I think they were both injured. Now I'm not going to jump to conclusions here , as footballers aren't known generally for their humility, and it may have been a one-off, but take from that what you will.

@smitherenes123

Actually you're wrong. Mick got Wolves PROMOTED, kept them up for 2 years and then was sacked in the January so he never got them relegated did he...

Carson has had his runs out but so far has not done enough . It will take time for him to get the bad influences out of his system and back on track to realise his potential .

Wouldn't be surprised if the unnamed club is York. What with Worthington being the manager

You may not like MM...that is fair enough. But inventing statistics to try to make a point just makes you look silly...

Another player of questionable attitude who thought he'd made it without actually achieving anything. A spell in the lower leagues could be the reality check he needs.

"Josh Carson is set for a trial at an unnamed club this week"

I didn't know that there were any unnamed clubs. How will he explain who he plays for?
