Chopra Glad to Be Where He's Wanted
Friday, 26th Jul 2013 17:28

Former Blues striker Michael Chopra says he’s glad to be at a club where he’s wanted, having joined Blackpool from Town earlier in the week. The 29-year-old has signed a one-year deal with an option for another season.

Chopra told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm at a club where I'm wanted. It's nice to be wanted again.

"The manager is looking to bring a couple more players in and if we can get the right balance, this club is going places.”

The former Cardiff, Sunderland and Newcastle man says his well-documented problems with gambling will always be the subject of discussion: "No matter what I do, it's always going to be in the spotlight.

"It's down to me to do well on the pitch. If I'd been scoring on a regular basis for Ipswich, nobody would talk about it. It's down to myself to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"With the gambling, I still go to meetings and that's an ongoing process. The main thing for me is that I'm at a football club where I'm going to be playing and I'm made to feel welcome and wanted.”

He says he expects to receive good service while with the Seasiders: "You've got Thomas Ince and also Matty Phillips to come back when he's fit.

"The manager [Paul Ince] is looking to bring a couple more players in and if we can get the right balance, this club is going places.

"When you're playing with good players, you know you'll get a lot of chances to score goals. I believe that if I get the chances, I will score goals. I've done that all my life."

Interesting though as looks like quite a few town players have been sending him best wishes, including Milts. Maybe he was just misunderstood!

'Right balance. Going places.'

Right. I got it. So what you're saying is, 'Big wages. Any club will do'.

Although I can understand what he is saying about the lack of service last season, he could have kept the subtle digs to himself... he received more than enough time and support during his time here and it didn't work out so move on and don't disrespect the club and people that gave you more than your fair share.

Although I wish you well chops im glad to see the back of you. The last of the deadwood is shifted ! I feel a top 6 finish in the pipeline...

Is it just me or is the irony lost on anyone else that Blackpool are sponsored by the pay day loan company Wonga!? The 4,214% representative APR on £250,000 must be a fair return......All the best Chops.

Just can't help himself, can he?

If he'd come out and said "Thanks for all the help with my issues, I'm really sorry it didn't work out at Town, but I'm really looking forward to a new opportunity and a new challenge." then that would have been alright.

Instead he decides to have a pop and say that he's glad to be somewhere he feels wanted - absolute indication of the kind of human being he is. Gutted he didn't work out for us as I believe he's a good Championship striker, but delighted that we don't have him or his attitude any more. Poor man's Suarez.

I see Blackpool also signed our big target from last summer, Stephen Davies. He did well at a very poor Bristol City side so we may have lost out there. It will be interesting to see how that partnership works out, could be good with decent service alright (if Chopra gets his act together).

You're a disgraceful example to young footballers, my 7 yr old son idolised you when you signed, but you have proven time & time again you care about nobody, you have the moral fibre of a used tea bag, the ITFC fans were delighted when you arrived, but the way you have treated our clubs efforts to aid & support you, & the way you have interacted with the fans on Twitter, shows you are worse than vermin. I doubt you will ever be able to re-capture your form of 4/5 seasons ago, but hey, that doesn't matter to you does it, as long as you get another unsuspecting club to pay you a wage you don't deserve.

no mention of all the help town has offered, or the times when town stood by him when he needed support, very selfish player.

toforge - even Van Persie would have struggled? Maybe, but DJ Campbell did pretty well for us!

'Glad to feel wanted' - dear me, just sounds like a needy child. Everyone at Ipswich was desperate for him to do well, but he let us down time and time again

> To be fair to Chopra he joined a very poor team and got very little service in the time he was here.

He did worse than all the others:

Campbell: 17 league appearances, 10 goals (1 in 1.7).
McGoldrick: 13 league appearances, 4 goals (1 in 3.3).
Murphy: 39 league appearances, 7 goals (1 in 5.6).
Nouble: 16 league appearances, 2 goals (1 in 8).
Chopra: 33 league appearances, 4 goals. (1 in 8.3).
