Titus Bramble in Squad Against Gills
Tuesday, 16th Jul 2013 17:49

Town have revealed that former Blue Titus Bramble will be in the squad facing Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium this evening (KO 7.30pm).

Former Manchester United and Manchester City central defender Frederic Veseli, who trained with the squad in Ireland recently, and Tottenham's Bongani Khumalo, who was in the side at Crawley last week, have also been included in the travelling party.

Bramble is a free agent having been released by Sunderland at the end of last season. The former England U21 international has spent the last fortnight training at West Ham but is understood not to have been offered terms. He joined up with the Town squad yesterday.

Prior to the 31-year-old's spell with the Hammers, boss Mick McCarthy dismissed claims that Bramble was training with the Blues.

Bramble came through the Town academy, which he now sponsors, before making his senior debut in the 1998/99 season. The Ipswich-born defender was sold to Newcastle United, then managed by Sir Bobby Robson, for £4.5 million in the summer of 2002.

Veseli trained with Town in Ireland but missed the friendly at Shelbourne having picked up a hamstring injury. He rejoined the Blues at the weekend.

The 20-year-old, who has also played at right-back and in central midfield, was released by Manchester United at the end of last season and has also been linked with Crystal Palace, Birmingham, Wigan and unnamed sides in the Bundesliga and Serie A since his Old Trafford exit, but is said to want to stay in England.

A Swiss international at U15, U16, U17 and U18 levels, Veseli joined the Red Devils from rivals Manchester City in January 2012. He was previously a youth player with hometown club FC Renens and FC Lausanne-Sport, Veseli and is yet to make a senior appearance.

Please somebody tell me we are not seriously thinking of giving Bramble a contract. Free or not he is a liability on and off the pitch. We made some good money when Sir Bobby took him to Newcastle and the last thing we need now is another disruptive player in the dressing room. Trouble just seems to follow him around and frankly I think we have had enough in the last couple of years - Chopra/Taylor/N'Daw/Edwards/Bullard to name a few.

Lol Carsey!

A guy who has played almost his entire career in the premier league, is quick and fast and has a few years left.

I assume you are holding out for Varane or Thiago Silva?

3 CBs in the squad, guessing MM is going to cast an eye over them to decide which one he signs?

I like Titus given his past with us but not sure if he's the sort of player (off-the-pitch) that would suit MM's squad. Regardless, MM hasn't done us wrong so far.

Why wouldn't you want to sign a regular premier league player for the past 10 years?

Yes he's had some off field problems, but this guy could be a really good signing for us.

He is hopefully now a bit more mature, and a talented, experienced player used to playing at the top level, and a real blue who would give his best for the club. Mick will I am sure take a good luck at all the options, but this one is well worth considering.

Kuqi well said we could always hold out for another 18 year old freebie from some backwater southern Irish side.

I don't think you should put Carlos in the category of the others. Bad judgement related to his driving, but the others offenses are in a different class.

Mick is weighing up his options then, Bramble, Veseli, Khumalo and Seaborne, curious which one Mick will get

Well worth taking a look at him. The other two also. MM wont make any foolish decision.

What is going on-Titus Bramble back for Town? This is plainly mid-summer madness! It is just wrong for many good reasons (why is it even happening? IMHO this is a bad move to bring him back to Town on a permanent basis-what is the deal with this? C'mon on Town think what you are doing! We need to do better than this heading to the start of a new season-please?!!)

I think that if ever a TWTD poll was needed for a subject, this is it.

I know that some supporters have concerns and understand these, but I would quite love to see him back. I know that I am quite swayed by the romance of it, but he would be an excellent Championship defender under Mick's guidance. The main anxiety I would have is around his fitness.

Please no!! Vesili would be a much better signing. Bramble has so many mistakes in him, also we don't want another player with off the field problems like Chopra, think he would be a bad influence on the squad. Id much rather have a young player looking to prove himself.

why all the negativity? he is a good experienced premier league centre back and a local lad. Yes he has had his moments but his experience would be fantastic for us.
