McCarthy Taking No Risks With Taylor
Tuesday, 16th Jul 2013 13:46

Boss Mick McCarthy says he won’t be taking any risks with striker Paul Taylor as he continues his rehabilitation from his long-term foot injury. The 25-year-old is unlikely to be involved at Gillingham tonight (KO 7.30pm).

Taylor wasn’t involved against Shelbourne or Crawley and, speaking after the game at the Broadfield Stadium, McCarthy said the former Peterborough man is making progress: “He’s training and training particularly well, but he’s had no contact and there’s no point in pushing that because the last thing we need is for him to break down at this stage.

“I think he’s probably pushing more than everybody else to get him a start, but it’s ridiculous to risk him at this stage, he needs to be fully fit.

“His injury is fine, it’s just his rehab, it’s just making sure everything is back, his proprioception, the way he runs and walks and his balance. Let’s not have any accidents with him.”

I can't wait for him to be fully fit. I think that he is an integral part of ITFC for the coming season.

He may need time to get used to playing football again after all this time out so i wouldn't pin too much expectation on him. If he can get fully fit and in form then we could have a very good player.

"proprioception" sounds like the sequel to Inception

Awareness of the positions of one's body apparently. Thanks Phil - a new word for the vobabulary.

Vobabulary is a new one for me? ;0)
Does seem an inordinate length of time to recover from an injury but I would'nt want to see a return to the old days when players were pumped full of cortisone to get them on the pitch, ultimately shortening their careers considerably. Ask Kevin Beattie.

Would have loved to hear Mick say "proprioception". But as Moscow says, a new one for the vocabulary. Could be a pub quiz tie break one day.

I agree that it will take him a lot of time to get back to his best. An end of season secret weapon for us, I reckon. Few cup games, few smaller league games then scoring for fun at the end of the season just as everyone else's legs have given up ;-)

Anybody thought that MM might not want him picking up any injuries as we are going to sell him?
Naughty boy etc. I do hope not, as I reckon he could be a real handful with Nouble and McGoldrick.

Isn't 'proprioception' a new energy drink, wouldn't surprise me.

Isn't proprioception something that the Warnock Committee reported on?

I honestly believe we will have a better season than last year but lets not get too carried away. I remember last year- so many people posting here saying "We WILL get promotion etc". Yes, we have a good squad but I can also see 10 other squads which are just as good as ours.

If we get into the top 6 it will be a VERY good season.

Had to look up proprioception on Wiki and found interoception as well, hope don't get that this season. Big word for MM to come out with, may be it's a Yorkshire one.

Good. MM is exactly what we needed ... and his handling of these situations look absolutely spot on.

It's absolutely right to be cautious. It does feel like Civelli all over again, but hopefully this time with a different outcome!

McCarthy is right not to rush him back. He will seem like a new signing for us, top player

Taylor has had a very unusual ankle fracture. they didnt actually know how best to treat it initially because the bone he broke , is rarely ( if ever broken). TBH he could easily have had his career finished because of it , so the fact that he's back running again is very good.

essextractorboy93 - I recollect many saying that about a certain Luciano Civelli just a few seasons ago, hope you are right.
