FA Announce Plans for Sir Bobby Robson Day
Tuesday, 16th Jul 2013 09:35

The FA has announced details of The Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day, which takes place on Saturday 10th August. The day, which was announced in January, is part of the celebrations of the FA’s 150th anniversary and will promote grassroots football with 150 events taking place across the country which will see the public joining with everything from tournaments to skills sessions and coaching workshops.

All aspects of the game will be included, including women’s football, disability football, refereeing and coaching.

At the Sir Bobby Robson Football Centre in Ushaw Moor, Durham, close to where the ex-Blues boss played as a boy, Lady Elsie Robson will be at an event where which will feature a children’s football tournament, a coaching clinic, skills sessions and Futsal.

Elsewhere, there will be a women’s football festival at St George’s Park, a beach soccer event in Dorset, a Respect event at Netherton United in Peterborough and a tournament and coaching session at AC Paulista FC in Lewisham, London. The FA will be making a donation to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Lady Elsie says her husband, who died in July 2009 aged 76, would have been delighted by the tribute: “I’m sure Bob would have been thrilled having a National Football Day named in his honour.

“He was always so incredibly passionate about football. He just loved it, whatever level it was being played at. He was lucky enough to play and manage at the top of the game but he was just as enthusiastic talking to youngsters about their junior club matches.

“It’s a lovely gesture from The FA and we’re very grateful for their generous support of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation too.”

Isn't it great when one of your true hero's in football gets honoured in this way.

Sir Bobby was a true gentleman and a great coach, who fully deserves this, well done the FA.

Too much to ask for a Ramsey Day I suppose after the shocking treatment he received from the FA after winning the greatest prize

This has made my day. I'm really looking forward to the first home game of the season. Hope we can live up to the goodwill expounded by the FA. We need to set a real example to the football world that proper football values still mean something. Sir Bobby, we still remember and still reflect on those good times. Thank you and RIP.

Nice touch! Assume that with Town being at home that day the club will do something also? I'm sure the great mans name will be sung in full voice by all 4 sides of the ground that day.

Nice tribute for probably the most influential manager there has ever been. About time they remembered not only a brilliant manager and personality but a great teacher as well, as without Sir Bobby the likes of Mourinho would not be around at all.

Good on the FA for organising this.

would be nice if ITFC did something at the home game against Millwall on the 10th

I forgot he used to manage town, but living in the north east you'd think he'd spent his entire career in black and white!

Good work FA!

It might sound cynical.....& it is, but the FA need the GREAT mans name to promote football, as the general public will have more interest & respect for a one day event in his honour than a whole year of activities arranged to mark 150 years of the FA , who are nothing more than a spec of dust in his shadow.

I am proud of Ipswich and our association with a true legend, and a thoroughly nice bloke who had time for EVERYONE. Let us hope we can live up to his example as a man, and we can soon be really proud again of our achievements on and off the field .

Can anyone else feel it in their water?

Re the rumour about him choosing the curtains in directors room,he DEFINITELY answered phone once when I rang the ticket office, and once when I wrote to club praising the team;he replied with a nice letter saying he didnt receive many complimentary letters. This was in his early days.
A great man who perhaps certainly initially we didnt appreciate as much as we should.
