McCarthy Not Ruling Out Moves for Ex-Loan Pair
Monday, 24th Jun 2013 15:42

Blues boss Mick McCarthy hasn’t ruled out moves for former loanees Stephen Henderson and Richard Stearman this summer. As previously reported, Town have spoken to West Ham about Henderson returning to Portman Road on a season-long loan.

McCarthy said: “They’re both under contract at their clubs, which kind of makes life difficult because we’ve signed Bosmans [up to now this summer].

“We’ll wait and see and we’ll just keep looking and whether it’s those two or somebody else, we’ll find out.”

Henderson has another two years left on his contract at Upton Park, while Stearman has another season remaining on his Wolves deal.

The Blues boss was delighted with the pair during their spells at the club last season and says they play in positions where he is looking to make additions: “Hendo was really good for us and I need another goalkeeper.

“Richard Stearman was excellent for us and I think he’s fantastic, and I’m looking for another defender because I’ve got Elliott Hewitt, Chambo and Tommy Smith, Cressy and Tyrone Mings, so we’ve only got five of them.

“Cole Skuse can play at right-back but he’s a midfield player. It’s nice to have versatility but you want players that play in a certain position.”

McCarthy isn’t surprised that there have been plenty of names mentioned in connection with the Blues in the press this summer: “I’m sure I’ve been linked to everybody and that’s bound to be the case because I’ve not spoken to anybody and they’ve got to write something. They might as well speculate!"

One of those linked, the Town boss’s one-time Wolves captain Karl Henry, is amongst four players to have been put on the transfer list at Molineux, along with Stephen Ward, Jamie O’Hara and Roger Johnson.

McCarthy is understood to be a big admirer of Henry, who is contracted to Wolves until the summer of 2016 on wages likely to be beyond the Blues’ current budget.

Elsewhere, former Town academy striker Charlie Sheringham, 25, has joined AFC Wimbledon having been released by Bournemouth.

Stearman would be a quality signing, so would Hendo but would prefer loachy to be given a chance first

Get hendo on loan for two years and stearman on loan for one year and then sign them up when their contracts run out!!!

Stearman would be my number 1 target this summer. Would also like Hendo back to keep the defence settled. If we can get some pace and creativity on the wings on top of that then i think we'll have a very good squad.

would like to see stearman back but if we cant sign him maybe we should move on and save the loans for an emegency.
with regards hendo yes he is a very good keeper but we have loach as a decent first choice so whats the point of bringing him. It will either shunt loach out or we will pay his wages to warm the bench.
cant we find a decent young keeper around 21-22 who will be happy to learn, play for reserves and league cup games and cover competantly when needed.

I have mixed views on Hendo....hes a good keeper but he didn't want to come to us when he was at Pompey, but chose to sit on the Bench at Wet Spam instead, and I think Loach is just as capable as him to be honest. As for Stearman, he was a beast for us last season...would love to see him back in a Town shirt.

IN MICK WE TRUST!

From reading this, it seems reasonable to assume that the plan is that if we were to receive a fee for JET (or even Chopra) that it would be invested in these two tried and trusted players if possible.

Mick is only back one day and I already know why I have missed him in recent weeks.

NOOO arrgh this should not happen hendo should never pull on a Ipswich jersey ever again and for those haters i will tell you why 1) Henderson can not control his box corners and free-kicks are a liability as the defenders are all over the place making it an almost open goal for the opposition to score if you look at the likes of Buffon on Saturday he was in total control of his box when initially corners and free-kicks where whipped in by Neymar, Marcelo etc. 2) he has the mind set of being on loan he does not care if his team wins or loses as they are not his proper team all he cares about is that he gets his money and extra for keeping a clean sheet which he will do so by time wasting when we could be on a quick fire counter-attack he does not care for itfc £) AND THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL!! Henderson after time wasting and not doing his job properly at Huddersfield when us fans there that had traveled miles and miles to watch our team draw 0-0 (for me that was about 600 MILES as i live in "sunny" Cornwall) when we shouted at him because he played so poorly he had the nerve to tell the fans to F*** OFF I was outraged that is not how any player on the opposition let alone to his own supporters should retaliate in this way it is utter disgraceful and that is why he should not come back. Stearman i would be very pleased if Stearman came back but on the condition of a future fee maybe and if mm gave Hewitt a good chance rather than the odd sub appearance but all in all a return loan of stearman i would be very pleased .COYB!!

and for those who do not like what i say about hendo come up with 3 good points why he should come back instead of loach who in my opinion is the better goalie of the two IN MICK WE TRUST..

tbh I doubt we can afford them on a permanent basis - wages alone would probably rule us out as the new CEO's will play by the FFP rules.

To be fair to cornish.... Hendo DID tell the Town fans to F*ck off.

However, the team was booed and he was reacting to that.

Incredibly cold and a very dull match, so I could understand some booing. But an important clean sheet and point.

Ipswich24.... is Adrian Durham really your role model??

Lilcornishblue - there's a lot of people who disagree with you including me. Here are three points why he should come back:

1 - I've seen plenty of games where he has been commanding and claimed crosses comfortably taking the pressure off his defenders. The tight 1-nil wins toward the end of last season spring to mind against the likes of Bolton, Leicester and Leeds...
He's also better at commanding his area and organising the back four than loach. The run of clean sheets should tell you something here.

2 - He was acting professionally by time wasting as it was clear that MM went there for the draw. Anyone could see this and given the circumstances and where we finished in the league was obviously the tight thing to do.
If he told you to F-off, it was probably as you failed to see, recognise and understand the above!

3 - By coming back here Henderson clearly cares for his football as he wants to play rather than being third choice at West Ham. Any keeper wanting to play isn't just in it for the money.

I think most Town fans would agree with those points?

@battyblue okay give me three things that hendo is better than loach out and technically that's two as i said hendo can not control his box so.... and to ipswich24 is there really any point in that comment at all? just pointless....

and lastly to Marshalls_Mullet yep that is perfectly understandable but still he should not turn around and say F*** off that's not how a role model should react and he could have if he reacted quickly could have given the ball to one of our players quicker to go and score but maybe again they might not have been able to score so 50/50 there.

petieboy, how far behind the times are you. thought everyone was aware by now that we never even got tpo talk to Henderson about a move here from pompey as our bid was rejected by pompey.(pj announced this ages ago).Theobald. the reason Henderson would be brought in, and would play is because while loach is a decent shot stopper, he doesn't command his area, something that Henderson, after a sticky start here was doing very well towards the end of his loan here. unfortunately you cant afford to have a keeper in this division who stays rooted to his line. which is why, if true, we are also targeting forde, who, despite being shorter than loach, does command his area.

Stearman is an absolute must, but I would rather have Loach as our number one.

lilcornishblue added 17:35 - Jun 24
Keanish im sorry but half of your first point i can agree with yes he has pulled off some good saves to save us some games that can not be denied but saying he is better than loach at commanding his box i dont know because loach can command his box and when i have seen loach play he has done that in my opinion better than hendo because some of hendos super saves have been in scraps in the box which would not have happened if he could control his box to get ready when that ball comes flying in whilst if i remember rightly loach's super saves have been from one on ones or amazing shots so from that i think he is a better keeper than hendo
your second point is understandable but i still need to disagree if we need to improve as a team we need to be quick on counter attacks like the top teams do (Barcelona, manu, madrid, bayern etc.)then we cant see our goalie wasting time.
your third point yes he may want to play but if any team in the championship said hey hendo do you want to be our regular goalie he would say yes and if he wanted to play for us why did he go for the hammers rather than us?
COYB.

Lilcornishblue is obviously a 15 year old angry school boy. Get back to
your XBox and COD. Go vent your pointless anger at some noobie Americans.

1. As much as I do like Loach, Henderson is a more technically gifted keeper
2. "he doesn't care about us" What footballers really do? I go to work, I earn a living, I enjoy my job and the people I work with but, do I 'care and love' the cooperation? No. Do I hurt if we don't make our targets? No.
3. Telling the fans to 'feck off' is not professional and shouldn't be tolerated however, as a north stander some of the abuse he received during our poor run was disgraceful! He was subject to personal abuse rather than criticism, and I for 1 don't blame him for breaking and reacting to the pathetic and petulant 'fans' which I'm sure you were 1 of.

Lilcornishblue

I have three valid points.

1. Henderson is far better at coming for crosses and commanding his box than loach. That is Loach's downfall and it is well known. We're you implying we should try and sign Buffon?

2. I really don't think he was timewasting to annoy the town fans. We were in a relegation fight and a point away to a rival was a good result. A horrible result yes, but a valuable point. Whether you want to hear this or not but I'd probably say Mick instructed him to do so.

3. You don't use full stops.

Lincolnshire. if you think Henderson doesn't control his area, you clearly weren't at many, If any games last season towards the latter part of his spell with us, when he clearly was doing exactly that. as for your timewasting comment. he was doing what most keepers do away from home when looking to hold on to what they've got.

Mr_Evans on two points you are right yes i am a school boy of 14 and two i am angry that hendo may becoming back your point about no football cares about us well i have couple of names bullard did he cared for the fans and he wanted to please them as much as pj nc and me. Moshini alot of pictures i saw of him was of him either playing or interacting with the fans he cared as well so not all footballs do for the job. Your third point is partially right i was one of those fans shouting CRITISISM not abuse we never said anything that would offend him apart from go back to london after his performance and your first point if thats the only thing he can do better than loach then he can come and stay the bench because every other aspect of loach i think is better and he loves the fans and the club another example of a player that does it for the fans and do i need to remind you of the mings incident of what he did for a fan???
