Town to Face Barnet
Friday, 24th May 2013 13:07

Mick McCarthy's Town will face Barnet in a pre-season friendly at The Hive, the Bees' new ground, on Saturday 20th July (KO 3pm). Barnet, whose head coach is former Dutch international Edgar Davids, recently dropped into the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The match is the third pre-season game to be announced with the Blues travelling to take on Dublin side Shelbourne on Saturday 6th July and Colchester United on Tuesday 23rd July.

Town were last at Barnet in July 2004 when what was largely a reserves side was beaten 2-1 at Underhill.

The Blues took the lead through Shefki Kuqi in the ninth minute but before the break the home side hit back through Guiliano Grazioli and Liam Hatch.

Two years previously, a youthful Town line-up had won 2-1 at the same venue. Pablo Couñago netted a goal in either half, while Mark Arber was on target for the Bees.

There will be no home friendly this summer with work being carried out on the Portman Road pitch.

Surely we'll be one of the first sides to play at their new ground plus like you say having Edgar Davids as manager makes it even more appealing!

Just a heads up guys, there new stadium as far as I am aware is where there womens and reserve team currently plays which is at their new training ground with what I believe is temporary seating around it.

Might be brilliant but just warning you it might be like Brighton's old ground until Barnet get the permission to build there future 10k capacity ground.

Gentlemen (and Ladies) - Having been a Bees member for he past few seasons (ever since Town went all corporate, and treated me as a "customer") I can tell you that the new ground will be mostly finished, if not completed. Three stands are already up, with seats now installed in the main West stand (as I understand it). The Bees were forced to move by an unwelcoming and deliberately obstructive council in Barnet, so it has been a bit of a last minute move. The training centre is highly thoguht of by many people, outside of the club - Northampton used it prior to their play off final, (dont blame the bees for the result!) various olympic teams used it last year etc etc.
As I get more news and info, I will post it on her for those wishing to attend.

P.S. I am led to believe that bars will be available at the ground once it's complete

Not just Northampton, Brazil trained there before their friendly against England.
