Town striker David McGoldrick is only too aware of the importance of today’s visit to relegation rivals Huddersfield.

The Terriers, who were promoted from League One last season, have managed just one win — at home to promotion-chasing Crystal Palace — in their last 16 Championship games.

Their most recent defeat, 6-1 at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, came after Mark Robins replaced Simon Grayson and today’s clash will be Robins’s first home league game at the helm.

McGoldrick said: “I don’t know if you can call it a six-pointer but it would certainly be great to pick up three and leave them with nothing. But any game in the Championship is a tough game.

“Huddersfield have just got themselves a new manager and lost 6-1 the other night. I worked with Mark Robins this season and I know he wouldn’t have been very happy with that. He’s a good guy and a good manager who will do a good job there, but hopefully not until after Saturday.”

McGoldrick worked with Robins when he was on loan at Coventry during the first half of this season and added: “He knows the game inside out and he will know what to do.

“Mark doesn’t shout a lot and he earns the respect of his players. He also talks to players a lot rather than coming into the dressing after a defeat all harum-scarum.

“The next day in training he will concentrate on things that went wrong and how to put them right. He works hard on team shape but if you’re a player who is not in the team he won’t ignore you. He will discuss what you need to do and help to give you confidence.

“Mark will have been hurt by that heavy defeat at Forest and we need to be wary. Both him and his assistant, Steve Taylor, will make sure the Huddersfield players are up for the game. It’s a big one for them, his first league game at home, and we need to be ready for it.”

BrettenhamBlue added 10:39 - Feb 23 After such a heavy defeat you can count on Huddersfield not going Gung-Ho. Could be a game of very few chances for either side. If we can snatch a goal in the first 10 mins the game should be ours. Their confidence will fall to pieces. My suugestion would be all out attack first 10 mins and then sit back and absorb the pressure- countering with McGoldrick and Chopra on the break.

MattinLondon added 14:12 - Feb 23 Their pitch was awful for their FA Cup game last week so I can't see much football being played in the middle. Guess the key is to be patient, hope they panic and their crowd gets on their back - then hopefully catch them on the break.
