McGoldrick: Robins Will Want a Response
Saturday, 23rd Feb 2013 06:00

David McGoldrick expects Huddersfield to be keen to recover from the shock of being beaten 6-1 last time out when they take on Town today.

The Terriers crashed to the heavy defeat at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and McGoldrick believes new boss Mark Robins will be demanding a positive response from his team.

McGoldrick said: “If my team had just been beaten 6-1 I’d be a little bit peed off and I’d want to put it right on Saturday.

“I think Huddersfield will be right in our faces from the first minute and they will want to get a reaction from their crowd. They lost 4-1 in their previous home game and even though it was Wigan in the FA Cup they will want to get it right this week.”

The game reunites Robins and McGoldrick just a few weeks after they were helping Coventry to climb League One — but that won’t be of any benefit to his former boss, insists the Town striker.

He added: “Mark might think so but I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve for him. He studies the teams he is going to be coming up against and he’ll know how Ipswich play.

“Managers look for the negatives but I don’t think there are too many with us at the minute. I think we’re really solid. It’s the Championship and every game is a hard game, no matter whether you are playing teams near the top or near the bottom.

“Right now the Championship is crazy. You look at Middlesbrough, who are still in the play-off places after losing a lot of games this year. They’ve only had one win in their last eight and lost six of the other seven.

“As for relegation, any three teams in the bottom 10 could go down. There are teams above us who are not safe. One win and we will go above them, which will mean they get sucked into it.

“It doesn’t make any sense when you see Wolves, with the players they have, sitting third bottom. They could go on a little run and although Barnsley are in form at the minute I don’t think that is going to last. If it does they will probably get automatic promotion!

“We say every year that this league is crazy, but this year it seems to be crazier than ever.”
