McCarthy Has High Hopes for Nouble
Thursday, 21st Feb 2013 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says he has high hopes for striker Frank Nouble, who joined the Blues from Wolves for an undisclosed fee in January, signing an 18-month contract. The 21-year-old has so far made six substitute appearances for his new club.

McCarthy said: “I hope we turn him into a player. I think Terry Connor will have a lot to do with it because he worked with him a lot when they were at Wolves.

“I actually was trying to sign him for Wolves before I left and Terry followed it up and did and worked with him there.

“Terry’s excellent working with the centre-forwards. There’s more to him than a big, strong lad that goes on [as sub]. He’s better than that.

“I think he’s got to play to that, to his strengths, but I think he’s a better footballer than that, I think he’s got a lot to offer us.”

He says the one-time Chelsea trainee, who spent time with West Ham before his short-lived move to Molineux in the summer, has the right attitude: “He wants to do well. He’s really ambitious.

“If you look at where he’s been, he’s been to so many clubs out on loan. He’ll admit himself that they put him in the team and he’s done all right and then he hasn’t done all right and they see this big, quick guy that should be this, that and the other and isn’t quite what they think, and then he gets sent back and he doesn’t get worked with.

“We’re working with him and hopefully we’ll get the benefit from him. He’s a great kid and he really wants to do well.”

I'm unsure about Nouble and haven't seen what Mick has in him so far, but I'll trust his judgement. He'll be here next season anyway so hopefully he'll come good over the coming weeks & be full of confidence by the time we're ready to kick.
I have greater expectations of McGoldrick, who does look the type of player who could go on a goalscoring run for us. I doubt we'll see McLean here come August, & who knows what'll happen with Chopra & JET between now & then.
I know he is not universally popular, but I would be happy enough for Murphy to sign, once his Celtic contract expires & if more realistic Championship wages could be agreed.

I've seen signs of talent in him def very keen but it's a raw talent that does need a lt of work, Tuesday he just look manic running around and shooting for the sake of it, almost desperate to prove himself. Def shows far more willingness than a certain JET who uses his laid back style to be quite frank as an excuse to be lazy! Those saying jet should start he needs to prove himself, at villa he was terrible

I saw a lot in Nouble when he came on against Blackpool. He reminded me somewhat of Kuki. He chased everything and never gave anything up. I think with a little polish he'll be a great asset.

Len Brennan. Agree with all your points. Lets face it (I avoid "frankly" cos of his name!), he is under contract for 18 months. If it doesn't work out it shouldn't be the end of the world, as long as we didn't pay too much in this undisclosed fee.

Once we have the survival points then these youngsters should get a run. Hewit ,nouble , etc. Lets hope that is in 5 games time. COYB

Lets not forget Taylor who hopefully will be back and fit for next season, Nouble may just be the type of player for him to feed off?

Thought our chances ended on Tuesday when McGoldrick went off and he came on.
Can't see a player in him - looks like Frank Bruno played like Frank Spencer.

9 goals in 5 seasons as a striker. What are you seeing MM?

I remember a certain young Terrier Henry when he first arrived at Arsenal. He couldnt hit a barn door with a banjo, the club worked hard with him and reaped great rewards.
Not saying Frank is like Henry but we need to give the management time to work with him before judging.
Dito for JET, he may prove the doubters wrong.

On a really positive note, we see the club buying in promising strikers (Frank, JET, McGoldrick, Taylor) and have TC in particular working hard with these guys. I hope + expect to see a far more threathening attack next season!

“Terry's excellent working with the centre-forwards." Why don't we score more bleddy goals then?

Cornishnick, because the middle of the midfield don't pass to them! We can't always score from crosses and corners...

haven't seen too much from Nouble yet , but trust MM & TC to get something from him if they rate him . I hope they haven't given up on JET though - there is definitely talent there if they can get it out of him ,MM is the right one to sort him out

Didn't seem to be a problem for Campbell.

starting to cringe, with this 'in MM we trust' dung.. All well and good, but the likes of Nouble and Thomas were bought to hit the ground running, not to be breast fed

Brought in to "hit the ground running"? Since when has MM said that was ever the case? You cannot be a complete footballer aged 21.

Footballers can always improve and in the case of Nouble he has lots of potential. I also saw him vs Blackpool as mentioned above and his enthusiasm was a breath of fresh air.

Six sub appearances and no goals for a relegation contending side, are there any more where he came from?

Garv added 13:02 - Feb 21
Personally I can't believe he gets in the squad above Emmanuel Thomas. Don't think I remember more than one header he's won?

JET needs to seriously starting providing application to that "natural" talent he is supposed to have. Because I can see Nouble overtaking him, and I agree with MM this kid has got bags of talent. He hasnt had the coaching JET has had at Arsenal, but demonstrates far more application on the pitch. Give Nouble that coaching and I'll wager he will outshine JET. But tbh Id rather have JET pull his finger out and start applying himself - then we will have 2 very , very good young attackers, and 3 if you count Taylor.

The future for Town is looking brighter under MM/ TC. They just need to keep us up this season so they can continue to re build over the summer.

The poor lad has been here for a month and most of you are writing him off already. Besides, what sort of service have any of our strikers had from our awful midfield? It's ok to say 'Campbell did it' but at least half Campbell's goals were penalties let's not forget.

Retro - totally agree
MM/TC need players who show application and attitude to the team
JET - has some talent but that aint good enough on its own - Messi , Bale , Ronaldo , Rooney , Van Persie are fantastic talents but they also have an edge / a desire / a work rate that JET will never have - IMO
TC was and is working hard with JET but you can only assume in training he is not putting in the effort - he has no 'right' to be above Nouble
I think Nouble has potential - we can all have opinions - but 6 games as a sub and people think cos he not scored 5 goals he is worst than Ellington !!
I trust Mick and Terry in their judgement on players - they will have get the best out of players - JET must not have the right attitude
Retro is spot on
PLUS TAYLOR has plenty of attitude - I cant for him to come back !!!
