Wordsworth Spends Night in Hospital
Saturday, 16th Feb 2013 21:52

Midfielder Anthony Wordsworth will be spending tonight in hospital after suffering an injury in the kidney area during the first half of Town’s 1-0 victory over Blackpool.

Wordsworth tweeted: “Looks like I’ll be watching Chops’ goal in the hospital tonight. Thank for your concerns.”

After the game manager Mick McCarthy said Wordsworth, who landed awkwardly after challenging Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks in the air, would be assessed in hospital: “He’s on gas and air in the physio’s room.

“He’s obviously in pain but he doesn’t look that way at the moment. He’ll be going off to hospital, he’s got a bang in around the kidney area in the back.

“I think he’ll be a really good player for us, Woody, and it’s a shame if the injury is going to keep him out for any length of time. But we don’t know yet. He’s going to be taken to hospital as a precaution.”

The 24-year-old subsequently tweeted a photo of himself on the way to hospital in an ambulance extolling the virtues of gas and air, later adding: “This is not the way I want to end my debut but would do it all again for three points.”

Great shame and awful luck. Thought he was just growing into the game today when he suffered his injury. Lots of things going against us this season what with Taylor and now Wordsworth injured in the infancy of their careers with us. Get well soon Mr Wordsworth.

Looks as though he's had a bit too much of that gas and air! Glad he's smiling through it though!

It's a shame that his full debut came to such an end and I hope he recovers well. I must say, his attitude to the win comes across as fantastic and I'd love to more of the same from other members (particularly the young'uns such as Carson/Wright) of the team.

Shame he suffered this injury so early in his ITFC career. Very difficult to judge how good he will be, time will tell, but in the meantime I wish him a speedy recovery.

Are you sure this is the right Twitter account? Seems far too literate for a football player.

@Marcus, the guys name is Wordsworth! If even he was illiterate it would be some kind of poetic irony (see what i did there?).

As above though, i like his attitude and think he's gonna fit in well. Get well soon, Anthony.

It's over a day with no update. Should we start to be more concerned?

Get well soon.

As mentioned above, he just seemed to be growing into the game on Sat. Was a shame to see him go off, although its bitter sweet as Chops came on, did well and got the winner.

What makes him differ from a lot of other new signings in my opinion is even in his first few minutes for us he seems keen to get on the ball and try to make things happen rather than spend time in the shadows. I dont dislike Lee Martin out wide left as much as some posters do on here but i do think Lee has the tendency to drift in and out of games. I also think having a more central minded midfielder out on the left is an easier task now too, as Cressy has found his game again. With him on top form i do worry a lot less about the winger drifiting infield to find the ball.

Hopefully Wordy can get a run in the team before the end of the season to show us what he can really do. Get better soon son! Fingers crossed its not too serious!

Anthony Wordsworth could be one of the best and most exciting signings we've made in years and turn into another of ITFC's great left side midfielders. From what we have already seen of him (all too briefly) he reads the game well, is capable of making those defence-splitting passes that lead to goals and is also not afraid to 'have a go' himself. MM will nurture him I'm sure. Get him a 100% fit as well.
