Chopra Could Face FA Action
Sunday, 27th Jan 2013 23:21

Town striker Michael Chopra could face action from the FA having been found guilty of breaching the rules of racing by a British Horseracing Authority inquiry on Friday. The 29-year-old was banned from having any involvement in horse racing for 10 years.

A spokesman for the FA told TWTD: “The Football Association are aware of the outcome of the case and will now digest the written findings of the BHA.”

Speaking on Friday, in the wake of the BHA inquiry’s findings, Steve Pearce, Town’s press manager, released a statement on behalf of the club: “This is a private matter between Michael and the British Horseracing Authority.

“Michael issued a statement before the inquiry began stating his reasons why he would not be appearing in front of the BHA.

“He has nothing further to add to that statement at this stage and wants to concentrate on an important game at Bristol City at the weekend.”

“I've got a lot of belief in my ability. I scored 14 goals last year and, believe me, it was probably the worst season I've had with things off the pitch, and things on the pitch really.
For me to score 14 goals and to play at such a bad standard in my eyes, I believe that when I'm playing well and I'm at my best and if I'm fit, I can get 25 to 30.”

As far as we know it, this is just an aftershock of a previous club and a previous path that Chops was on. Dont want to get all soppy but the guy has a lot of baggage to get rid of and this whole thing dragging out from other clubs into his time at our club wont help us or him. Lets give the guy a clean slate and not kick our own players in the teeth - leave that to the scum. Get behind him and his confidence will build. Lets help the dust settle instead of sticking one into him. We're not a nasty club, so lets not start now.

quite right, this is a private matter, however, its likely to affect his job so therefore ITFC need to get a grip of the situation. I paid good money for my season ticket, a small partion of which went to employing this man and another small amount goes to pay his wages. Clegg, what happended to your due diligence work prior to signing him up as an employee

Guthrum and Fatcatevans are right and god there are some thick posters on here from time to time - you know who you are. Firstly, the last time I looked, conspiracy to defraud was a criminal offence so I would be surprised if the police don't also investigate. It is not solely a private or civil matter (hence the actions against the Pakistani cricketers). Secondly, a sporting body (BHA) has found Chopra guilty of trying to manipulate the result of a sporting event. OBVIOUSLY it has to investigate, it's duty is to look after the image and running of the game in this country.

Well said Guthrum and LordMamu, spot on. He was found guilty of bribery and corruption in professional sport after an extremely stringent investigation and a mountain of evidence presented against him which he didn't even bother to deny. How can we trust him not to try and influence the outcome of ITFC games which he might be involved in? Even if he didn't/doesn't want to, he's in debt to some seriously thuggish people remember. The FA have no option whatsoever but to investigate, would seriously be deserting their duty if they didn't.
