Chopra Could Face FA Action
Sunday, 27th Jan 2013 23:21

Town striker Michael Chopra could face action from the FA having been found guilty of breaching the rules of racing by a British Horseracing Authority inquiry on Friday. The 29-year-old was banned from having any involvement in horse racing for 10 years.

A spokesman for the FA told TWTD: “The Football Association are aware of the outcome of the case and will now digest the written findings of the BHA.”

Speaking on Friday, in the wake of the BHA inquiry’s findings, Steve Pearce, Town’s press manager, released a statement on behalf of the club: “This is a private matter between Michael and the British Horseracing Authority.

“Michael issued a statement before the inquiry began stating his reasons why he would not be appearing in front of the BHA.

“He has nothing further to add to that statement at this stage and wants to concentrate on an important game at Bristol City at the weekend.”

the £1m we paid for him I thought was a bargain, now it seems like a lot of money wasted, very little return and all the headlines for the wrong reasons. He'll probably tweet this now saying how us fans know nothing, he really needs to get his head down and start producing and pay the club back for its support.

What's it got to do with the FA? Well, as Chopra has been found guilty by a sporting regulatory authority of conspiracy to manipulate the result of an event, then the regulatory authority of the sport in which he participates professionally (the FA) has every right to consider the implications of that.

I hate the FA so much, that don't need to get involved like others have already stated. He needs a run in the time for me, and when scored that goal against Villa he gets left out the next for new loanee's? I couldn't understand that if I'm honest.

Chops has baggage, we all are aware, i feel however now he is trying to sort himself out, and he is lucky to be at a club so supportive.
Let him constantly be aware of this and let him pay the faith back on the pitch.

What a flop you have been, nothing but trouble from the start, you have taken the p....s out of this club and they have gone out of there way to help you get over your problems, you should be ashamed of yourself. At the moment you could not hit a barn door from two feet.I just wish you could prove me wrong

Get rid of him now, a total waste of money, space and time. He has darkened the name of our fine club. Once a gambler always a gambler, once a liar, always a liar. Terminate his contract NOW!!!!

I won't be the only one wondering exactly what the FA think this has to with them; for one thing this is a private, civil matter, not a criminal offence, so I fail to see what they could do about it. Like it or not what Chopra does in his spare time is none of their business. All these high and mighty comments from some people are a joke; Chopra, whatever else he may be, is at least trying to deal with his problems. For once the club have taken the right approach, maybe the FA could learn a thing or two.

The FA should keep their nose out it.

Guthrum is 100 per cent right. You can't have a professional sportsman fixing sporting events, especially a self confessed gambling addict without his professional body being interested

Leyroy Gibbs how narrow minded you are, trust me I work with addiction and once an addict always an addict is a pathetic short sighted ignorant view

Perhaps the FA would like to pick up Chopra's loan. Thensend him on a few rehab programmes and generally start to look after one of their "ill" employees/members?

Oh, not likely - more grief and misery from the Ivory Towers...

...as for Chopra - well we all now know why we finally got him for the budget that ME allows us. The smoke and mirrors have blown away and we all see what we are ...a lower second division football club striving to remain exactly that....
