Scotland's Contract Settled
Sunday, 20th Jan 2013 23:45

TWTD understands that Town have agreed to settle the remaining months of striker Jason Scotland’s contract. The 33-year-old’s time at Portman Road was previously due to end on June 30th.

Speaking two weeks ago, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that Scotland’s spell with the Blues was coming to an end: “Jason is likely to be going somewhere. He’s been fabulous, Jason, he’s such a lovely character and a nice man, he’s been great around the place.

“But we’re going younger and hungrier, I guess, and unfortunately Jason’s missing out. But he understands and he’d like to go and play football somewhere in the twilight of his career.”

Doncaster Rovers, Wolves and Saturday’s opponents Barnsley are amongst the clubs understood to be interested in signing the ex-Swansea, St Johnstone and Dundee United man, while Brighton and Preston were also previously eyeing his situation.

Scotland joined Town for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £1 million from Wigan in August 2010. The former Trinidad and Tobago international made 59 starts and 38 substitute appearances while with the Blues, scoring 21 goals.

Elsewhere, Norwich City are reported to be leading the chase for Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp, who has also spoken to the Blues since being told be could leave the City Ground earlier in the month.

The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international is available on a free transfer and the Canaries are understood to have offered him terms until the end of the season with first-choice John Ruddy currently sidelined.

I agree with 62WasBest - I think too many on here unfairly believe the worst in the club, but I reckon its in both parties interests for him to move on at this time. Well done from both parties, thats how it should be done.
Good servant to the club, wish him all the best.

All the best Jason thanks for you efforts.

I can understand some of us asking why we dont hold out for a fee but ME isnt stupid I am sure they can work out that if he stays on his wages it will cost a huge amount and Jason cant even get on the bench. If he goes out on loan I am guessing we would still be paying part of his wages and only helping out another club.

This way we are all happy Jason can find another club with a nominal sum in his back pocket and we can spend his wages on someone else.

The problem with Ellington is that there probably isnt any clubs looking to take him so he is happy to sit back and take the money until his contract runs out!!!!!

Don't think we ever really got the best out of him or gave him a decent run in the team.

This is a shame, but not a surprise. Thanks for your time here Jason, and good luck.

A good player who worked hard for us, but I fear that we signed him when he was past his best (and playing him as a lone striker probably didn't help). I assume that the term "settled his contract" means that he has done a deal with the club. It was inevitable given his age and the plethora of forwards we have on the books at the moment.

Don't like MM's assessment of "younger and hungrier", every side needs experience, as has been well documented over the years. The strikers he has signed to date, have done precisely nothing, we can only hope that they improve 800% by next season...........as others have said, i'd rather have had Scotland playing in recent games than the "younger and hungrier", but totally ineffective signings.

Saw him score a beauty at Palace last season, but at 33 this makes sense. Hope like many he gets another contract somewhere

Scotland has done really well for us with no service. Think what he would of done with some proper service. Here we are again paying someone off to leave, we never sell anyone and get a free, we really are laughable in the transfer market

alot on here said already and he goes with our best wishes.

I for one would have him in my squad in front of Chopra & Jet but let's hope it the start of a big clean out but can we get at least 10p for someone as commercially re contracts and deals we are inept and have been for a good few years even prior to the current Owner and CE! Think as a club we are too nice!

Wish Mick had given him a chance as he is a proven sorer at this level but we are now overweight in younger strikers so good luck to Jason and he won't be short of offers.

Much in the melting pot at this Club right now - in MM we trust to make the right decisions - 'time' will be the telling factor.
Would have preferred to see a bigger gap between us and the chasing pack - before letting Scotland go.
Most people would have been far more reassured to see Scotland on the bench waiting to come on - Home or Away - for the time being at least.

We no longer have that option !! ...... roll your sleeves up MC, JET, McG, and McC - and show us your worth post haste.
