Kisnorbo Joins On Loan
Thursday, 3rd Jan 2013 12:06

Town have signed Australian central defender Patrick Kisnorbo on loan from Leeds until January 29th. The 31-year-old former Leicester man is available for Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie at Aston Villa.

Kisnorbo began his senior career with hometown club South Melbourne, joining Hearts in 2005. After two years in Scotland he moved on to Leicester, where he spent the following four seasons, partnering ex-Blue Gareth McAuley at the heart of the Foxes' defence before his departure for Portman Road.

Capped 18 times by Australia, scoring once, the 6ft 2in tall centre-half has made only one Capital One Cup appearance for the Whites this season.

Town were in need of an additional central defender after Danny Higginbotham joined Sheffield United from Stoke at the end of his loan spell. Kisnorbo will wear the number six shirt while with the Blues.

Mmmmmm. "we won't rely on short term loans ever again whilst I am at this club". Maybe it is like a trial with a view to a permanent deal before the month close.

Fair enough, gives us cover for the month whilst Mick works on a longer term solution.

Direct replacement for Higginbotham ? Welcome Patrick. Do well and I guess you might get a permanent contract at the end of the month.

Clearly signed as CB cover for the rest of this month as we only have 2 CBs at the moment while MM works on a deal for longer-term signing.

I think this is a very canny move from Mick. We've got a solid CB pairing in Smith and Chambers at the moment but to have a reliable back-up in Kisnorbo - even if its until the end of the month - can only be good for the team.

Welcome Patrick. In Mick We Trust.

Not a bad replacement for Higginbotham, whatever Mick does and whoever he brings in lets get behind him!

Released by Leicester three years ago, great first season with LUFC in League One, has hardly played first team football for the last two seasons due to injuries. I fear that a little bit like NRC, Orr and DJ, it could take him three of four games to get match fit.

People should check up a bit on the player rather than slag him off instantly, he was highly thought off but has had a couple of really nasty injuries including a cruciate one which has slowed his career down, as long as he is feeling fit then he should be an asset for us.

Initial reaction what probably the same as most when they read on loan, but after further reading I'm guessing this is a temporary replacement for Higginbotham while MM gets someone else in. Will be interesting to see how he performs in a town shirt though.

Kisnorbo is needed as we only have 2 centre-backs so he will be back up. If he does well he will be signed permanently. We needed a centre-back to provide support for Smith and Chambers before we sign Stearman from Wolves.

We only had two centre backs at the club (Chambers and Smith) so it makes total sense to bring a loan player in. It's a short term loan, but gives us cover during January while we hopefully sort out some longer term deals.

As for Kisnorbo himself, he was Leeds Supporters' Player of the Year in their League One promotion season and is only 31, but has suffered from injuries a lot recently. Hopefully decent cover though.

provides capable cover whilst we find a Higginbotham replacement in the transfer window. Takes the need for a panic buy out of the equation

Welcome aboard, makes such a change to see us identify targets and sign them without any eastenders saga like who was Kats lover as has been the case with signing loan or permanent players over the past couple of years

Agree with some of the previous comments. Think this is an interim strategy to give us cover while we look for permanent options - and may even give us an option himself if he proves to be good enough.

Used to watch Kisnorbo at Leicester - he was pretty decent and used to get his head to a lot, but I think McAuley was the better all round defender. Seems all we need now is to make that oft-mooted move for Richard Stearman and we've practically got Leicester's 07 defence!
