Campbell Wants Future Sorted Soon
Wednesday, 2nd Jan 2013 09:07

Striker DJ Campbell says he wants his future sorted out as soon as possible. Town’s 10-goal top scorer returns to QPR today with Blues boss Mick McCarthy keen for him to return on a permanent basis and other clubs - reportedly Crystal Palace and Bolton - also interested in signing him.

Campbell said: “I want this resolved as soon as possible. I’m 31 years old, I haven’t got time for it to be dragging on.”

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is the man who will ultimately make the decision but Campbell, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is yet to speak to him: “I have not spoken to Harry myself, but the gaffer here has offered me a deal and told me what he wants to do — which is great for me.

“I have really enjoyed my time here and the fans have been great — as have the gaffer and the players. If the circumstances are right, I would definitely stay.”

The Londoner was disappointed that his 16-game loan spell ended in defeat to Brighton yesterday: “It was disappointing to lose the game and it’s not the way I wanted to go out.

“We’ve had a good festive period and to take seven points over the four games is a decent return, especially when you consider we only had seven points when Mick came in.

“Obviously I wanted to win and it would have been nice to get the three points and score a couple of goals in my last game, but it wasn’t to be.”

The striker added his thanks to Town supporters on Twitter: "Just want to say a quick thank you to all the Ipswich fans and everyone at Ipswich for making me feel so welcome. Whatever happens you've been brilliant."

So do we DJ... Either way it will be championship football for you next year as QPR going down, I suspect though for Harry you are a short term fix and not likely to be the longer term future whereas here you have two or three good seasons ahead, come on Harry let him stay where he is happy!

He'll go where the money is best, most do and I doubt that'll be here tbh. I think this transfer window is vital for our survival in the Championship. Although there has been much improvement since MM arrived there is still a long way to go, anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish!!!!

Redknapp would be very foolish to let a fit and on form goal scorer leave while his team are struggling for goals and points. He will surely give Cambell a few games to prove himself. You never know though, Im sure Harry will have lots of cash to spend and may have identified a few strikers to bring in.

Personaly, I can see Campbell playing for a few weeks in QPR, then being sold before transfer window closes. Im sure harry will bring in his own players, he seems very unhappy with the players he inherited. This could work out well for Ipswich, dont forget Harry is good mates with Marcus Evans!

re Algarve Fan - isnt he one of the people who stayed with blackpool to get first team games even through they had a 10k a week cap on wages?

I suspect there is more to his decision that simply money, he doesnt want to uproot his family, so i think we're in with a shout......

If you were Harry Redknapp would you really see DJ as the answer to all your problems ? He has been great for us and I want to see him back but I think Palace and other Championship contenders are a more serious threat to that happening than QPR keeping him.

Top class loannee - one of our best - No brainer we want him to stay - he was forging good understanding with Murphy - Gonna be interesting few weeks - but just one request - Take NRC to the nearest Junction of the M6 services , drop him off and wave him farewell - seen him play when we have lost 5-0 , 6-0 and 3-0 . Too much of a bad luck charm ( as well as being past it ) - Come on Mick

Not the short term answer for QPR's current predicament but I thought Mick Mills was being a bit naive on Radio suffolk yesterday by saying it was bang on that he would be returning after they realise he is not as good as what they have already got.

It will take a miracle for QPR to survive in the prem this season and I think Harry knows that deep down. Therefore they will not spend big in this window and risk financial oblivion (or even be able to attract the players needed). Instead they will have one eye on next season in the championship and probaly offload Cisse and Zamora from the wage bill. In DJ they have a ready made 20 goal a season striker at this level.

They may have been happy to extend his loan until the summer but he has already said he doesnt want to do this, for some reason.

Would like him to stay but at 31 he will probably need to look at what's best for him long term. I know he has scored 10 for us but how many of them were penalties - so he might not be QPR's saviour.
