McCarthy: Hospice Visit Humbling and Uplifting
Friday, 14th Dec 2012 11:34

Boss Mick McCarthy says this week’s hospice and hospital visits have been both humbling and uplifting. The Town manager joined some of his players on a visit to the East Anglian Children’s Hospice (EACH) in Ipswich on Monday with other members of the squad at hospices and hospitals across the county throughout the week.

McCarthy said: “It’s vital. Someone said to me it’s quite humbling but it’s quite uplifting as well because you do get a real kick from it.

“You feel humbled by it, you feel sad at times because of some of the things you see, but you feel good about yourself as well, the fact that you’ve gone and taken the time to see people and put a smile on somebody’s face, whether that’s the child or the parent or somebody in hospital. You do get a bit of a thrill out of it and it does make you feel a bit better about yourself.

“And also it makes you realise what we have as footballers and football managers. We keep fit for a living and get well paid for it. We’re very privileged and I think it just makes you aware of that.

“It was lovely. I went down to the hospice, it was lovely, we were face painting. I’m sure there are pictures of me with a blue nose with glitter on it! It was good fun.”

This is where football and footballer's are shown at their best... There is enough negative publicity but certainly from the pics this week it shows how powerful football can be to help make lives better, the players could easily have stood in a huddle chatting together but no, from the looks of it they all really got involved, well done boys and Mick!

Well done to all involved. Would be great if something like this could be done on a more regular basis. Maybe it is. I dont know. But i think its a boost & feelgood factor for all.

Professional Football does do alot in the community and MOTD used to feature it . You are right at a time when some Footballers and def the Authorities need to get a reality check and moving into the real world - Player shows Pants with sponsor = £85k fine - International team is blatently racist =£65k fine - No sense in Football -
