Redknapp: I Wish DJ Was Here
Friday, 14th Dec 2012 10:33

QPR manager Harry Redknapp says he wishes striker DJ Campbell was at Loftus Road and not on loan with the Blues. The 31-year-old, whose spell is up on January 5th, has scored eight goals in 12 games for Town.

Redknapp says he's yet to speak to anyone regarding Campbell's future but suggests the striker won't be available for sale on his return to West London: “DJ has done very well for Ipswich.

"I wish he was here now, he'd be very useful for us. He's an enthusiastic player who gives everything, which is what you need."

QPR are currently short of options up front with Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora both injured. Campbell was left out of the 25-man squad named in August, making him ineligible until the next transfer window.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has said he wants sign Campbell on a permanent basis but is yet to hold talks with his QPR counterpart.

The player himself, whose contract is up at the end of the season, has said he is looking for a permanent move if he isn't in QPR's plans rather than an extension to his loan.

Could be a good sign if he is trying to talk up the price. I am sure MM will know how to handle that. (Keep Clegg away from any negotiations!)

Can't QPR simply terminate his loan contract with us?

After all, he is a QPR player.

Told the forum this days ago that DJ wouldn't be staying....................they didn't believe me, no skin off my nose.

I hinted at a likely replacement in January too, let's see what comes of that.

He wasn't in the 25-man squad so they'd have to get special permission to do so, which they almost certainly wouldn't. I've added some of that to the story.

How many changes can Pre clubs make to 25 man squad in transfer window? I think Chops is as good as DJ as we rarely saw him play upfront with a partner as DJ has done. Neither of them are suited to loan striker role that previous managers played.

Not looking good.

Well DJ is a "loan striker" just a pity he's nailed on to return to QPR. Still MM has time to find replacement but agree that this gives Chops chance to show what he can do with Murphy. But still think Wells would be good back up

So, Harry knows that he can't have him back until the loan ends and makes some noise about how much he'd like him back.

Sounds like the usual upping of the price tactics employed by all clubs in the lead up to a transfer window...

Crafty Boy is 'arry.

We may not miss DJ as much if Chopra pulls his finger out - although given that DJ is banging them in from all angles (well from 12 yards mainly but at least he can score them) I would prefer 'tried and tested' over 'has the potential once he gets his head straight and off twitter and paddypower'

Looks like we will have to move forward without him hope im totally wrong. Well at least Mick will have time to get someone else in. Maybe Chops & JET might step up & do the business.

the usual then! Fall in love with a load player and then wooosh..back he goes. Thats why I hate loans.

Hopefully it's just a way of telling the current QPR strikers to pull their socks up - would be a big miss if we did lose him! Confident Chopra could step up to the plate though after McCarthy's comments on him in training.

Spot on MelbourneVicBlue. Pretty tiresome. No-one can do anything about it till January and then it's up to the managers to work it out between them, so any nonsense gabbled to the press at this time of year is nothing but transfer market tactics.

You should spend less time toying with ITFC, 'Arry, and more time sorting out that mess you've walked into at Loftus Road.

DJ has a lot of thinking to do come on let's be honest even if he goes back to qpr n jan and gets another contract come the summer 'arry would have brought in at least another 2 strikers and he wll be back to playing for QPR resevers or if he's lucky he might make the bench in the micky mouse cup (league cup)
Come on DJ YOU make the decison for yourself and stay at a club that will play week in week out not sit on your backside just picking up your wages! We wll see what sort of man mr campbell is but PLEASE PLEASE keep that clown clegg away from any talks

"There may be trouble ahead, But while there's music and moonlight and love and romance, Let's face the music and dance"

Harry's leading us on a merry dance, lets wait and see what happens when it stops and enjoy DJ while we have him. Roll on January window so we can settle it once and for all. I for one hope we can keep him. In Mick we trust, and Clegg and Evans have learnt a bit from past mistakes so I have confidence in them all.

Harry's doing his normal political show here, there is still a big possibility that DJ will come our way; Harry's inflating the price. MM will know how to deal with this. I believe that Harry rates DJ as a Xhampionship striker, but not a Premier League one. He will look to buy elsewhere. Hughes didn't rate DJ enough to put him in his 25 man squad, and Harry will be influenced by this. COYB.

I'd like to say thanks to DJ for all he has done for us (jewells greatest discussion) but I am hoping he stays (dare to dream)

Why is everyone so pessimistic about this? I'd say the ball was firmly in DJ's court. QPR, barring a miracle, are going down. DJ is out of contract in the summer. He can either go back to a relegation bound club in January where he might or might not get a game every now and then or he can tell them he wants a permanent move which will at least see QPR some cash instead of a freebie move in the summer. DJ has the best negotiation position which is why Harry is coming out with this desperate old flannel.

Posturing from 'arry after a bit of dog food.

I predict DJ going back to QPR for 'arry, Joe & Co. to have a look at him in training, then he'll buy someone like Pavlyuchenko and crank up the price to get as much as possible for DJ.... which means he will lead Cardiff to the Championship.... DAMN!

Paulcooperis(was)god, yeah I am with you all the way. I think 'Arry is just saying that he could use him right now but that doesn't mean he will want him next year, unless he cannot buy somebody better, in which case PJ would be far better off negotiating a contract with us where he is truly wanted. Over to you PJ. COYB
