No January Squad Overhaul
Friday, 14th Dec 2012 06:01

Manager Mick McCarthy says fans shouldn’t expect a complete overhaul of his squad during the January transfer window. The Blues boss will look to add to his squad, having been promised funds by owner Marcus Evans, but there won’t be a major influx of new players.

McCarthy says his first task will be to address the situation with the six domestic loanees — Stephen Henderson, Bilel Mohsni, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell, Bradley Orr and the now injured Tyrone Barnett.

He said: “There’s no chance [of a complete overhaul]. I’ve got to wait and see what happens with the ones we’ve got.

“I’ve got six loans and poor old Bilel Mohsni, who has come here and is a smashing fella, is the one who has had his nose pushed out because he can’t be involved in the squad. I can only have five and I think the other five are better for me to have in the squad.

“I can’t have any more than five, I’m not going to be taking seven and be leaving two behind every week who can’t be involved, that would be wrong and nobody’s going to come in those circumstances.

“Unless it happens with the loans that we have, if we renew them and keep them, great, if we don’t, then I might have to replace them.”

He says he’s still to speak to Harry Redknapp regarding DJ Campbell’s situation, the Blues boss having left a message for the new QPR manager last week: “No, I haven’t, but he’s busy and I’m busy. There’s nothing we can do until January. There’s no great urgency. He’ll be playing on Saturday.”

The 53-year-old says there won’t be six or seven new additions during the window: “The other thing is, of course, that anything that you buy in January generally costs a considerable amount more than it would if you were buying in the close season because everybody knows that everybody gets desperate for players at this time and they all become more expensive, both to purchase and to employ.”

He expects to still be involved in deals right at the end of the month: “Like utopians, we all think that on January 1st everything will be sorted out. Well, lots of our loan players are here until the middle of January and to the end of January.

“We’ll have to see what happens with them. The reality is that everybody will say ‘We’ll wait and see what happens, whether we get anybody in’, Premier League clubs certainly will.

“If you’re trying to loan players from them they’re reluctant to weaken their hand and let their players go in case they get injuries. As usual, we’ll all be scrabbling around all through January, right to the very end, no doubt.”

In terms of players who might be weighing up moves in January, he says league position does come into it, but perhaps only when it comes to the very top of the division: “Of course they [want to go to clubs which are doing well], they want to be promoted.

“But I wonder how many teams they look at in the Championship and think that’s going to happen to them immediately.

“There are plenty up near the play-offs but I don’t think there are that many who realistically think they are going to get in there.

“Cardiff look like promotion material, Middlesbrough are a good side, Leicester when we played them, Palace.

“Once you look outside the top six, it's who you fancy going to play for; the area comes into consideration, the crowds that go and watch, maybe the type of football, the manager that’s there.

“There are all sorts of things that decide whether players would like to come and play. I think we’ve got lots of those components that people would fancy.”

We will be fine. The objective is to stay up and anything else is a bonus. Im sure next Summer MM will make the decisions to progress.

Guys please stop feeding the troll he clearly gets off on the attention, ignore and he will crawl back into his hole.

Great report again, Mcarthy is right January shows over inflated prices, I suspect we will get more of an overhaul come the summer when hopefully we will be in a better position to sign having come in the top half of the table. We are winning with the squad we have, sort out the loan situation and we will be around tenth this season.

Sometimes you dont need to spend a bucket load of money to get success, for me it shows compotence if you don't. I'm sure Mick will want to strengthen in some areas but Mick is a manager who is very good at getting every inch of effort from his players and seems a very good motivator which can count for a lot, Keane for example needed X amount of money because he hasn't got this thoughtfullness and just signed the likes of Leadbitter for £2m because he saw a quick fix. with regards to promotion. Mick is the kind of manager who can change the fortunes of a player who hasn't been playing particularly well and has been a bit of an outcast and transform them through work on the training pitch and man management skills, seen this with the likes of Murphy, N'Daw, Smith..

Yes. Let's stick with what Mick McCarthy has had to say. He's absolutely clear about the realities of English football today, and the realities of life in the Championship. Unlike Mr Jewell, who seemed to be living in some sort of parallel universe, and Mr Keane who seemed unable to function in a world in which no other person was a clone of him. And notice how little Mr Clegg has HAD to say since a modern, humane and competent manager has been appointed.

Just sort out the loan situation and with a minimum adjustment I think we are virtually there. If we keep up our present progress we will not be too far off and will be one of the teams that others do not look forward to playing. Please all you guys/girls just ignore the attention seeker and he will go away. No negative ticks because each one feeds his ego! COYB

Moshi and N'Daw I can see us signing with little problem.
Henderson, can't see West Ham letting him go but may extend his loan to end of season, Campbell I think will be hard to sign, will be other clubs looking at him and old Harry might want to throw him in the team if QPR are not making progress.
Higgingbotham I think we could replace as he seems quite average so far.

I think that's a good ploy from McCarthy, building a promotion-winning side take's time and can't be done in an instant. Signing too many players in one go doesn't give them enough time to gel together either. Our main objective should be to sign those loanees that have made a big difference (Campbell, N'Daw and Orr spring to mind.) Just got to hope the fans and owner give him plenty of time to work his magic - in Mick we trust!

Would like to see us sign N'Daw and Murphy permantly and think that this is possible.Would also like to see Kelvin Davis back at PR. Think that DJ will not be with us in January but would be pleased to see him here.

GavTWTD i hope this is the truth about ITFC1958 being banned because he was starting to get on everybody nerves.
With some of his comments he made about town it would not supprise me if he is a Norwich fan.
When he said he new more about football and was better than Mick McCarthy i thought what a plonker.
